Any good techniques removing adhesive residue from automotive paint?

I'm in the process of removing various parts from my M235 to sell it. Years ago, I removed the stock lip spoiler and replaced it with the M Performance CF spoiler. I removed the CF spoiler yesterday and of course it left tape residue on the paint. I remember removing the residue when I removed the OEM lip spoiler and it was a biatach to get the residue off. I did Goo Gone and a little heat from a heat gun, but what got it was my fingers which were then blistered for days later. BMW uses a double sided tape that is even stronger than the typical 3M stuff and the residue is something else.

So far, I've tried Goo Gone, petroleum jelly, WD40, as well as some heat and a plastic razor. I've gotten the fluffy tape off, but the final adhesive layer is fighting me hard. A friend swears by just using some gasoline on rag. I don't thing I'm at that stage and I've read people saying it's no big deal and others saying it will cloud the paint. Any other ideas? 3M rubber wheel perhaps?

Ask your wife if you can borrow her nail polish remover. Try it. Nothing to lose.

For the rear spoiler you need an eraser wheel, and then some sort of solvent. I use PPG 330, it's safe for paint, and it works wonders.

Did you try using more 3M VHB tape over the old tape's goo? With decals, I found that sticking a new (scrap) one over the goo from the old one interacted with the old goo and made it release easier.

You've already tried my other go-to things for decal removal, namely goo gone and WD40. I don't think that a rubber wheel is the answer, since it will probably just plug itself up with melted goo from the heat.....

Gasoline and naphtha (lighter fluid).

I would avoid acetone, or try it in a small concealed spot. Goof Off is good, and contains acetone, so is on the "last resort" list.

I'd certainly not use any abrasive method. I'd try something from an auto parts store, like Goo Gone, or some adhesive remover. lakefront mentions 3M and that's a good brand to start with.

Also, like chassis offered test whatever you want to use on a hidden painted area.

You will almost certainly remove besides the adhesive any wax. So after the adhesive is gone wash the area well then dry and apply good automotive paint wax.

WD40 is my go to when removing any kind of adhesive or sticky substance in general.

I have used 3M adhesive remover for years on multiple vehicles. Never an issue. Pick it up at any auto parts store.

Used the 3M eraser wheel. I had all the residue off in a few minutes. No damage at all to the paint, not even light marring. I'll never use a chemical again to get sticker residue off of paint again. Thanks to all that recommended the eraser wheel.
