ECU Swap for tuning
Just a random question, and thought, coming from a MKV Supra, to the G42 230i.
Guys in the supra world would search for a pre 06/20 ECU for their Supras, so they wouldn't have to send it off to Femto, and pay that ridiculous cost to tune. They would get it bench unlocked, and then put in the car when they were doing a custom tune, and it would work. The B48B20O1, that is in the G42 230i, is used in multiple BMW's, before this. Has anyone tried a pre 06/20 ECU in their G42 for tuning capabilities? |

I asked a similiar question a while back for the Gen2 B58 with the ECU's already researched but femto evo themselves dashed my hopes and dreams:

Probably. I recall speaking to BMW techs prior to taking delivery of my m240, and it was the case that the G42 was using some higher voltage or something and it was impossible to throw the older DME in.
Reason I'm so quite sure is that if it was possible to just jam a F series B48 ECU in, people would be doing it up the wazoo and blasting around with MHD snare drum "tunes" (i.e. slidey boi go right). Tunability would have seriously shifted the purchase favor to the B48 as most owners of the 4 cylinder variant usually choose it do to perceived price efficiency. Being able to tune it as opposed to a Bosch locked B58 would have people up in arms. The situation with the Bosch locking is a real pain in the ass. |
