Active cruise control
When equipped with the active cruise control option, what precisely does our m2 have the ability to do? Standard on the car is active driving assist from my window sticker. .
The x3 forum had the following listed as the different bmw assistant suites. I’m thinking it’s equal to driving assistant plus. Basic Driving Assistance is only rear radar detectors: – Lane Change Warning – Reversing warning for traffic crossing behind you – Safe Exit alerts you of cyclists and pedestrians on the side of your vehicle after you park your BMW – Rear collision prevention Driving Assistance Plus adds Front based assistance with camera and radar detector (works up to 110mph): - Active Cruise control - Active steering and lane keep assist - Speed limit assist - Front collision warning with braking Driving assistance Pro includes all features of Basic and Plus and adds more options and extends the speed where it assists up to 130mph - Indication of cyclists and pedestrians when turning - active swerve assist and cross-traffic warning - Traffic jam assist with active steering and breaking - Traffic light recognition - Stop and Yield sign recognition and warning Last edited by wtb1313; 01-04-2025 at 07:48 AM.. |

Active cruise control is a stand alone option in the M2. Info about what it does starts on p.198 in the owner's manual.
Standard features on the M2, not tied to active cruise control include: "Active Driving Assistant includes Forward Collision Mitigation, Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keeping Assistant, Speed Limit Info, and Cross Traffic Warning Rear" "Active Guard with Automatic City Collision Mitigation and Braking" (p.161 in the manual) |

That's DAPP and the M2 doesn't get that as an option. The M2 doesn't even have 360 cameras.

I have it an I LOVE it. I like driving open twisty roads, track days, autocrosses etc. I let our robot overlords handle bumper to bumper. I get no thrill going 2-5mph staring at the back of the same car for 45 minutes.

I've also had more than a handful of times where the car kept accelerating when traffic was stopped ahead, then the collision warning started beeping/flashing rapidly. Or a couple times where a semi swerved into my lane and the car didn't slow. I prefer the standard cruise which is very easy to modulate speed using the up/down switch and cancel & resume buttons. |

A lot depends on where you're using ACC. In urban stop-and-go traffic, JABCAT is spot-on. I'd normally never think of using cruise control (adaptive or active) in those conditions. In rural or highway traffic, I've found it works so much better than traditional, adaptive cruise control. If I'm stuck behind a slower vehicle on a 2-lane road (happens daily), I just let the vehicle vary the speed to maintain distance to the vehicle in front. On the other hand, I override or disable it, if I see a reason to slow or stop before the vehicle does. It just makes for a smoother driving.

Really? I haven't experienced that. I just press on the gas and it goes. It will slow down if I let off comoletely, but that’s to be expected and still more convenient than standard cruise control.

The M2 is less focused on luxury and amenities and more focused on driving experience. Could BMW have added all the stuff from an M240 or M4? Yep, but the cost would be higher. If you want the features of an M240 or M4, you can always buy one of those. I prefer the $65k base that gets me all the driving experience of an M4 base without the price. That $15k discount comes as a result of feature removal, more limited paint and interior options.

The rear camera and front and rear distance sensors is pretty much all anyone needs to park. Anything else is just luxury.

But I DO like having front and rear cameras, and would have optioned the former if I could. Modern cars, due to pedestrian regs, have such high hoods, and the distance sensor doesn't always catch short obstructions to the front, like curbs. I'd like a front camera to reduce the chance of dinging the lip. Not the end of the world, but I do wish I could get it. |
