Bimmercode locked out of ID8.5?

I’m just learning that coding the LCI G87 is severely limited due to the “headunit” module being locked out. This includes changing the ambient lighting and video in motion features. Kind of a bummer.

Anyone have a work-around?

This G80 thread has people saying they were able to successfully code idrive 8.5 to turn off the seatbelt warning and change the ambient lighting color. It would be nice to get the traditional red color ambient lighting. The only decent color available without coding is the blue color.

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...2115458&page=3

It was actually someone in this G20 thread that said they were able to code the seatbelt warning off.

I can get the ambient lighting setting to pop up if I select 3 Series/M3 when I connect bimmercode, but I’m hesitant to code with the wrong vehicle selected.

I might give bimmerutility a try.

Appreciate the info.

I purchased an adapter but hadn’t gotten around to paying for Bimmercode and diving in yet. If the functionality is greatly degraded in iDrive 8.5, I’ll return the adapter and sit it out until this plays out.

I coded out ASD from my 2025. That was my biggest worry. Showstopper. Luckily you still can.

I have coded mine in M3 the entire time I’ve had my G87 without issue.

This. As long as I can still kill ASD with Bimmercode on my in-production '25 with iD 8.5, I'll be content.

An exhaust valve controller and a CANdo+ module should take care of most every other operational niggle I know I'll have (and, hopefully, some I don't know I'll have yet).

I’m sure it will be fine. You can always just send Stephan an e mail from the app and he will confirm if it is OK to code it using the G80.

No, my response was more that coding under the different model hasn’t impacted anything and just gave more options.

Ok thanks just wanted to clarify. This version is different so results might vary. I’m not sure I want to be the guinea pig.

Yes, it sticks. ASD is one of the few things left that works to code - because of the activation key.

No need for Bimmercode for that. Just turn it off once and it stays off until you turn it back on.

Depends on the market, some it has to be disabled at each restart.

Also, auto start-stop being disabled with Bimmercode and similar tools has caused erratic behaviour with the electric parking brake in some cars in the past.
