Found a cheaper option for oil cooler guard
I've been looking for a cheaper solution for the oil cooler guard and ordered one from Ali express for under 100$
It looks legit... 3mm aluminum but without air dam... https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesa...tlist.search.0 |

Seems like it would offer very good protection but then severely restricted air flow, so why have the oil cooler in the first place? Would you have it in place for daily driving but then remove it for track days?

That's my plan.
TBH I visit the track maybe twice a year. As it's my DD I'm much more concerned with random debris on the road that will have me stuck, waiting for a tow. I won't argue about the lack of air-flow, but I do question my daily-driving getting the cooling system to its limits. |

Let’s examine this more closely.
You spent $65K-$70K on a new G87 and you’re looking to save a couple hundred dollars on an oil cooler guard? I’ll be darn. Last edited by Carefree; 01-12-2025 at 11:33 AM.. |

So saving money on products like these are acceptable to me. What is not acceptable is saving money on these products that make things worse. Such as "inexpensive," cooler plate that protects the cooler from physical damage, however doesn't allow sufficient air flow that could potentially cause internal damage.(That is a far stretch, however it can happen.) my 0.02 cents, however usually my opinion is lower that whale poop. |

Also found one that if for reasonable price but it looks like there is some "science" behind it and the airflow looks that someone was thinking about that JDY Performance
Anyway it's also China product, but what isn't these days

However, when it comes to a peice of stamped sheet metal, I am not convinced that spending $1000 on something that costs around $10 to make is necessary OR provides better functionality than the $150 one would do. And it really is that extreme. Moshimoto plate, and others are around $1000 AUD, so while I am not cheap, those prices are OFFENSIVE!!!! Again for a stamped peice of sheet metal. So while I would be happy to spend $400 or $500 AUD on a quality oil guard, $1000 for a piece of metal is criminal in my mind AND JUST AN UNNECESSARY WAIST. Keeping in mind that the cooling comes from a negative pressure vacume drawing the heat away and NOT from direct airflow hitting it, I feel there has been far too much emphasis places on the size or even shape of the holes in the guards. Eveidemce to this is the YouTuber and MECHANIC ‘vehicle viral’ who has made his own plate design, runs it on his car, that is significantly modified by the way (meaning it has a much harder life than ours / mine ever will) and his design has NO HOLES, but is a completely covered plate with one rear wards facing letterbox type slat along the length of the plate. And with his extreme use of his heavily boosted and used M2, he records no heat issues, and again, he is a mechanic that owns his own performance shop. So again, I agree with you in principle, and will be buying nothing but the best in things that are essential, I just don’t think $1000 3mm aluminium does a better job then $150 3mm aluminium. They are actual the exact same. I like what the guy did above and got the $150 plate and drilled out the star holes to ensure the ventilation is no an issue |

given how cheap this upgrade is, i dont recommend going to the extreme and restricting air flow to save a few more dollars.

I would not suggest running that design. It looks extremely restrictive.
Ours has all the features of all the big name brands and uses heavier duty bolts. No reason to risk your motor to save less than $100. https://mad-us.com/mad-bmw-m3-m4-m2-...87-skid-plate/

Personally, its a horrible design. How is the airflow going get pushed through, and the louver openings are extremely narrow (again very restricted flow). Just my two cents, do with it what you want. |

Thank you. Yes, it's in usd. I would need a full shipping address to get a quote from our shipping team. It would be quicker to just add it to the cart and put your info in for a instant quote.

Also an fyi to everyone that may be miss understanding the flow direction for the cooler. The bottom is actually the exit for the flow that is traveling into the bumper, through the cooler and down out the bottom.

If you erre referring to my comment about the louvered skid plate, I know about the flow but that design will not allow for air to flow and escape. It's one step off of a solid plate. |

No, I was just throwing it out there . Many people think it's an air in and not an air out. I like clearing that up.

I like your one very much, but not sure if that will fit with SpeedEngineering chasis mounted splitter , which I'm also planning to install. Do you have some picture with mounted MAD oil cooler guard? That I could see how far to the front it goes? Sides look okish.
