Photos: BMW at 2025 CES (Consumer Electronics Show)
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com BMW had a large exhibit called BMW The Future, which I attended. The primary focus of it was the introduction of BMW's Panoramic iDrive which will be in every BMW model beginning end of 2025. In essence the Panoramic iDrive is a short screen that runs from pillar to pillar across the entire dash in front of the windshield. As you can see in the accompanying images, it replaced the driver information screen. That information is now displayed on the Panoramic iDrive screen in front of the driver, and then along with other selectable information going across the rest of the screen visible to everyone in the car. Personally I did not find the Panoramic iDrive screen to be an improvement over the driver information screen, and in fact, most of it other than what is in front of the driver, useless or a distraction to the driver. Not great … if you’re farsighted and you have to use readers to see this info-band
(Do people think they’re flying a plane here? Such cluttered view) Things already compete for your view, but when the “ tech “ competes with the view of **the road** - that says something

I dislike this design trend. Cadillac is the only manufacture that has done a decent job of pulling this off IMO. More and bigger screens does not equate to luxury.

Soon, BMW may try to insert ads in between the data on the screen if you don't pay your subscription or make you watch a 30-second ad before you drive off unless you are a BMW red member

If you’re nearsighted it probably won’t make much difference because current dash displays are already far enough away to be fuzzy. A lot comes down to the model design and how deep the dash really is. Last edited by sor; 01-13-2025 at 09:14 PM.. |

Is it just me of does the center screen look like it’s some sort of acute polygon trying to be a rectangle hence giving the effect the thing is crooked and weird on one side all in an effort to try and be different and cool which is a huge f miss on this center display
Unless of course the display was also designed by the same designer that came up with the rabbit tooth grill Last edited by Msparta; 01-13-2025 at 09:28 PM.. |

I am driving a loaner BMW 230i Coupe as we speak and Mattel IntelliVision console keeps surfacing in my mind as I try to use the rectangular touch screen. Everything old is new again?
Deeply non intuitive experience: it’s a struggle to even read the gas gauge. For the life of me, I can’t find the total mileage to date. Climate controls are touch only. Very distracting. Idea of the decade: return analog gauges as a digitally rendered option. I am OK with clicking on the touch sensitive screen 20 times to activate analog gauges. |

Isn’t the point of the HUD so you can keep your eyes forward and on the road? Unless the car is fully autonomous I’m confused why they would do this.

Saddens me that there’s a designer out there who thought the bumper was a good tribute to the E30

In the last picture, I like torque quoted in nanometers (nm) -- they did, however, get power correct (kW) -- capitalization matters when you use units...
