Mobile/BT/Apple Car Play - unable to maintain an in-car connection?

If, having tried all of these steps:-
  • Resetting i-drive?
  • Resetting phone?
  • Deleting/resetting your BMW profile?
You are still unable to establish a permanent mobile connection, that automatically reconnects after every cold start, then examine the following for a cause:

REMOVE any flashdrive (with music files on it) installed in the (forward, next to phone charging tray) USB socket in the centre console

Ensure you have <16,000 files on the drive, any more and the BT/WiFi phone connection will be unstable.

The vehicle's on board systems will prioritise reading & indexing music files on the flashdrive over it's requirement to connect to a mobile phone.
