No cell signal underground but my BMW was able to take remote camera pictures? How?

My office underground parking has zero cell phone signal from any of the big thee carriers(Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile). My parking spot is L3, which is the lowest level.

Recently, I tried the remote camera feature in the BMW app when I was upstairs in my office. Surprisingly, it took exterior pics without any problems and I could see the pics on my phone.

How is this possible? We’ve always know that cell signal was not available be cause everybody tried with phones from all three carriers. Just tried again yesterday with AT&T and T-Mobile phones from my coworkers
. (Mine is Verizon). Does BMW have access to some secret cell carrier that nobody is aware of around here? 🤣 I’m on the 12th floor so the car couldn’t possibly have connected to my phone using Bluetooth or something, right?

Clearly the garage does not block cell service as much as you thought.

When were the pics taken and when did you see them? Maybe they were from the day before and temporarily stored until service was reconnected?

They were taken when I hit the button on the BMW app. (Because I left my hat on my coworker’s Volvo XC60 parked next to me. 😂 (as a test)

I guess the cell antenna in your car would be significantly longer than the one in your phone........ LOL

Isn’t it just that little doorstop-shaped thing on top of the roof?

Which MY do you have?

Also, the car a pickup signal in areas a phone can't since the antenna is bigger and higher powered (cars don't have small batteries or small antennas). It is why the car has a cell phone signal booster on board! To help your phone be able to leverage those advantages.
