Jump start 2024 530i G60 with battery pack - negative terminal location?
I’ve read the manual and searched the forum. Went on vacation with car that should be in deep sleep, but maybe wasn’t. Got warning in My BMW app, battery low, shutting down services. Haven’t checked yet, got home last night but might need a jump or battery boost.
Not sure of location of NEGATIVE terminal aka ground in engine compartment? Manual is about starting from another car. No need to remove engine cover as positive terminal is marked with red cover / cap? Also I read reviews but any suggestions on battery jump packs from Amazon? How long should battery last in deep sleep? We were gone 3 weeks. Only had car a few months. We drive short trips mostly of 10-30 minutes. |

Did you fail to find the correct forum: https://g60.bimmerpost.com/forums ?

The negative terminal is a short metal post not far from the positive terminal (so that the wires can reach), like this. Quote:
Your battery didn't sleep well. Was it too cold? In summer time 3 weeks are nothing. Yet, short trips mean your battery is undercharged. |

No one covered where to attach the jump pack.
As to recommended jump packs, NOCO has been the gold standard but pricey. I got a Gooloo GP4000 based on various reviews and in particularly the testing by Project Farm. The GP4000 also has the ability to still provide power even though voltage of the battery in the car is low or below 11V. Many jump packs won't provide power if it sees too low of a voltage. |

The Noco I use has a manual override for when the dead battery is below 2V. As much as I LOVE my lithium battery jump starter, I'm not sold on how well they work when dealing with a "mostly dead" battery. At least, I haven't found myself in a situation where I had to find out (#knocks-on-wood). I've used mine many times tho on cars/equipment/toys and it is incredibly convienient. OP: No need to remove the beauty cover. Just connect to positive post (flip red cap) and ground somewhere to the block. |

A short advice: whenever a charger or similar device doesnt start due to low voltage...just briefly connect in parallel ANY (reasonable size) 12v battery (some battery tool battery or similar). Once the device starts, you disconnect it

I've seen some jump starter manuals that recommend hooking it up, turning it on, then waiting a minute or so before pushing the start button. I suspect it is for this reason -- to get the trigger voltage high enough on a really low one.

****Pretty much what I have done basically forever and I'm not dead yet! (days not over though...)
I use trickle chargers on all of my cars I don't drive on a very regular basis. Cheap insurance. My M8 I use a CTEK designed specifically for LiFEPO4 (Lithium Ion) batteries that are *crazy* expensive compared to even the AGM batteries in some of my other cars with funny to pronounce names, etc.... |
