Frozen Paint Spoiler Removal
Is there a definitive guide or previous thread that could be shared on removing the excess or remaining 3M tape safely on frozen paint? There's alot of conflicting opinions on Goo Gone or WD40 etc... bit of a minefield

Hey bro, caution on this one. All BMW spoilers are installed with beta link. Its a paste like adhesive. TOUGH af to get off.
Normal paint, just fine, frozen not so much. The layer of clear that makes the paint "frozen" is incredibly thin. Problem arrises when removing the spoiler, alot of force is used plus heat from a heat gun and finally, a rubber eraser wheel. All of that surface contact can significantly compromise the clear. My advice is just leave the OEM spoiler. |

I've always just used my thumb and fingers and lost my fingerprints for a week and then a little rubbing alcohol for the very last bit of adhesive residue.

The frozen paint is actually pretty tough as hell if you’re not an idiot.

There’s lots of posts with pics of this on the forum.
1. Basically mask very carefully around the spoiler (you can even get the tape up under the edges.) 2. Use a fishing line kit with thick gloves (make sure you’re not contacting the trunk side) to slice through the adhesive. 3. Use a 3M pinstripe removal wheel in a cordless drill to get as much adhesive off the trunk as possible. Take your time, go slow, and never let things get too hot or you WILL scratch and/or shine the matte paint. This step is tedious but will make or break the whole project. Get as much off using this method as you can, cause the next step sucks. 4. Use your thumbs, along with some Adv Goo-Gone and microfiber towels to carefully remove the remaining adhesive. This just sucks. Be patient. Give yourself a couple of hours to do this right so you’re not rushing. https://g87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...postcount=5867

I didn't remove the spoiler. I just was chiming in that it was not Beta Link holding it on. They don't use Beta Link. There is a part number associated with the 3M adhesive cut in the shape of the spoiler surface.

The stock rear spoiler has been easy to get off on both my BMWs. As pointed out above it's 3M tape & not the super strength kind. I used Goo Gone professional. Saturated the tape & let it sit for a while, then just removed the tape with my finger.
