Personal preference for me is to stay away from plasmas - but other than that the only advice I have is hold off for 3-4 months and wait for the smokin' 'buy a big screen for the super bowl' deals

Best Plasma for the money
Samsung PN58B650 Or if you can tolerate the slower refresh rate (which still looks good) go for the Samsung UN55B6000

There is NO reason at all to not go with a plasma. All the issues that used to be a problem with plasmas are gone. No screen burn-in and the TV will now last over 20,000 hours.
I just bought one of the new Panasonic Plasmas with 1080P, 600Hz refresh rate. It is a great buy. Samsung also just came out with HD plasmas. Again, 1080P and 600Hz. This is a lot of TV for less than $2K http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218104303192

^ What he said. If you watch sports/movies I would go with plasma because it has nice contrast and is fast so u get no motion blur. With an LCD you would need at least a 120hz tv to minimize motion blur. Also, LCD's contrast (blacks, etc.) have improved but it's still not up to the same level as plasma. As for LED, it's kind of new so we don't know everything about it yet.

I would wait for the LED to have been out a little longer. Right now it seems to be the best out there, but is fairly new so most of the cons probably haven't been figured out yet.

Plasma disadvantages - weight and cooling (fan noise). If those are not a problem for you in your environment, you can probably get a 55 for about 600-800 less than LCD.

i hate these motion blur reducing tv's. I love movies and have gotten accustumed to seeing blur in any type of film or sports. With these motion blur reducing tv's they make everything look fake and unlifelike. If you watch movies with this motion blur removing setting, it just doesnt seem natural and totally ruins movies for me.

I have a 50'' panny plasma in my living room. I would never think to spend the money on a similar tv for my bedroom since the tv is turned on maybe once a week. Reguardless the Panny plasmas are the bomb. Cheaper then Pioneer and minimal drop in overall quality. Love my 800u.

For a professional opinion just go to CNET. Best picture is always Plasma. Since Pioneer dropped out of the high end market, you should look at Samsung and Panasonic. Both are relatively comparable.
