The reason the C6 scares me
Mods are CAI, long tube headers, Corsa Z06 exhaust, and tune. I clocked it at 100mph in about 8sec.

Cool vid - There is a member on this board that also has a C6 Z06, but he has done quite a bit more to it than the mods mentioned above. His makes that one sound like a civic.

I always thought that M3's were world class handling machines (from media stories/people talking about them) until I owned one. What the M3 does well is stay composed when pushed hard and stay pretty neutral w/o understeer/oversteer. In that sense , yeah the M3 handles well
BUT..... The center of gravity is too high and the M3 leans too much in corners, it weighs too much, and its limits are not all that great. I have not driven a C6, but I got very spoiled in my C5 Z06. the C5 Z06 does 1.06g STOCK, stays very flat in corners, and is also very neutral. I can only imagine that the C6 handles just as good as a C5 Z06. The only thing lacking in the handling dept. on the Corvettes is the back-end can kick out a little with uneven pavement, nothing a shock upgrade can't resolve though. I don't know why people still live in the past with Corvettes. They are no longer straight line machines anymore. From the C5 era on, Corvettes not only rival that of Euro cars, they surpasses them. Even with RE-11 tires my stock M3 does not come close to the handling limits that my C5 Z06 had.

Yep. You can't get that sound just anywhere.
The Grand Sport is supposedly the best of all worlds. Less harsh, less skippy into hard corners and just a tick slower than the Z06. Even with it's metal frame, only 100lbs heavier than the Z06' aluminum, that rascal will scoot and handle like hell. All with basically the same looks as the Z06. With manual you get the oil sump too. Too bad they are asking the same as new Z06' clearance sales. That will wear off though. |

Compared to what, an F1 car? You are dumb if you think any current BMW handles as well as even a standard C6 Vette.

I wasn't surprised by the C6 comment. There are far too many folks that are blind to reality on these forums, thinking that BMW is the end all be all of performance cars. The C6 is a remarkable platform for performance. BMW make great all around cars, but certainly not superior in all out performance.

" It's an ancient OHV pushrod V8" When in fact the age difference between OHV and DOHC is only ~10 years. DOHC isn't anything new. It is just it became more widely used when the Japanese entered the US market. " It uses leaf springs as its rear suspension" Someone else will have to post the reason why it uses the leaf spring as I forgot and a quick search on wiki doesn't say. " Typical American Engineering. Can only get HP from a huge displacement V8" Frankly, who cares that GM uses a 6.2 V8 to make 436 HP? It gets respectable fuel economy and makes great power. Also, the LS3 physically is smaller then the small displacement V8's making similar HP. Mercedes's 6.2 V8 is guaranteed physically bigger then the LS3. |

I love the C6. I think alot of the detractors just watch too much Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson. Here's some news for you: Just because Clarkson makes fun of the leaf springs doesn't mean they don't work...

What I'm trying to explain is these cars don't have the sophistication their european rivals have. They get the job done, but not gracefully. |

So the sophistication reason is pure Grade A BS. You just use it to further keep the image of the Europeans being better then the Americans. |

You do the same to M3 motor or even Nissan's VQ motor and then compare the gains to LS3. Just because chevy decided to put out 400hp out of 6.2L doesn't mean it's anywhere near its max potential.
