I think the best state of mind is to think that you can cut those things out of your life (as in "I don't have to do it") instead of "trying to hold out". The latter sounds like you crave and are just trying to prolong the "quitting" for as long as possible. In that way it's only a matter of time before you go back to it. If you and kind of filter those things out of your life you will be fine.

Hey you can do it bro. I quit smoking cold turkey. I woke up one day and said WTF I don't want to smoke anymore lol. Haven't looked at a cigarette since that day. Been clean about 9 months.

I just cut down on whatever the habit is. I've tried quitting cold turkey and it hasn't worked for me (did for a bit).
You could've called me a stoner maybe two years ago. Fuck that. I'll blaze maybe once every other week now and even then it's not that great to me. My worst addiction is probably cigarettes. Just under a year ago it was half a pack a day. Now it's a pack a week. I tried quitting but that only lasted 5 months and I only did it to make my gf happy. I don't think I can get wasted every other night now either. It's just too taxing. I'll party my ass off on the weekends though.

I couldn't go more than 5 months not because I was cravings all the time, but because I got drunk off my ass and asked someone for a stogie. Big fuckin mistake.

its all a mind game. Addiction is in the mind so if you have the will you can kick it.

Mine is food, I love food. Every time I want to eat some shit though I make myself run x ammount of miles to earn it. Pretty soon you find out you hate running more than you love food so the cravings become less and less. That's how I went from 280 down to 190. Now I'm at a pretty solid 240 and couldn't be happier, maybe at 230.
It's just a state of mind, once you kick the chemicals out of the system in the first couple days all you got to do is know that you don't need that shit and keep on pressin'. |

My 2 worst habits are food and picking/biting at my cuticles. I love eating, I'm a huge foodie. As for my fingers i dunno. I drive all day and get bored I guess. I stopped biting my nails a few years ago but for some reason I can't kick this part of it. As for you guys with cigs I neve got that. I smoked in college but never got hung up on it. Was never to the point of "i must have a cig right now" like some of my friends were. I could take or leave them, could care less.

Go buy a bicycle.... As soon as you feel like lighting up or taking a drink, ride it for a 5 mile loop.
Day/night/weekend/rain/shine. Sooner your later you'll actually start looking forward to it and it is an amazing way to clear your mind. You can insert, run/swim/gym in for bicycle if you want. I only suggest bicycle because it's more versatile than just about anything else and doesn't really involve "getting ready" so you can go immediately. |
