DVD Navigation Disc and Virus?
I'm about to buy a pirate version of the BMW Navigation DVD. Is there any way I can pick up a virus that can effect my Navi or CPU unit in the car?
Have you heard of such a thing? I figure it's just as risky as downloading a torrent myself. |

I wouldn't think so. The Nav has a very specific purpose and there wouldn't be much else for a virus to do if there was one. The virus wouldn't be able to "live" in the system since it's DVD based. All you would have to do is revert back to the old DVD.

in other words, you don't think any data is being copied into the CCC based Nav? the Nav is simply reading data like the old school CD players reading a CD disc?

Ah, the hard disk based nav? Sure, there could be extra or missing data on there, but it's still a simple operating system where a virus wouldn't be able to thrive. Theoretically speaking, maybe there could be purposely corrupt data on there that would force the HD to keep working until it crashes.

I feel that there would have to be a way for them to embed a virus in there.
Odds would be INCREDIBLY slim (as they wouldn't even benefit from this). Unfortunately I have no idea how you could combat it |
