I've had it before in a chinese place in the phillipines and Gordon Ramsey's take on it is spot on. The fin really didn't taste like anything like he said you could have substituted noodles or something in it's place. The soup it self was pretty good, but for the price I really dont see what the big fuss is about. Though I know in asian culture eating somthing like shark or tiger or whatever has mystic properties to them. Something like a placebo affect like eating a shark would make you powerful or only the rich eat the shark.

animal cruelty happens in the states, but nobody cares about that lol.

Yep who gives a shit. Even if he stops restaurants in the Chinatown of one city. That won't stop the killing of sharks throughout the world. Shark fin soup is too engrained in Chinese tradition to ever go away.

That shit is like telling gordon ramsey to stop selling steaks at his restaurants because cattle is sacred in the Hindu religion. You cant please everyone in the world.

Sorry but thats not the same at all. First of all cattle is far from endangered, they dont go out into the wild and catch cattle to kill them, they raise them for that purpose. Also they dont kill a whole cow just to use the feet and tail they use basically every part of it. If there was a shark farm and they raised the sharks so they can cut off the fins and the sharks werent endangered than you can compare them to cattle.

Yeah they do... Humane Society... PETA. The list goes on and on.

People aren't singling out Asians.. What is being done with sharks is disgusting.. Whether you like it or not. It's wasteful and borderline ridiculous to remove less than 3% of an animal's meat and then throw it over board.

I love veal. Do I recognize how inhumane it is kill calves for their meat? Yes. But at least they aren't simply killing the cow for a fraction of it's meat and then let the rest of it just rot.

Not to mention the calves are being raised for the sole purpose of their meat. Unlike the situation with shark fin soup, where you are long lining for 100's of sharks and the return is only a couple hundred lbs of meat. While 1000's of lbs of meat are being dumped back into the ocean. These sharks are part of the food chain... farm raised chickens and cattle are not.

Simply put... your argument is that ignorance is bliss.

It's true. If the sharks were raised for that specific purpose, then yes. But no.

Their fins are cut, and most of them die in the water afterwards. It is stupid. Animal cruelty 101.
