Nikon D800 - Who did it?
Pre-ordered my first full frame camera today. Only taking delivery in two to three months; but damn i'm excited. I feel like a kid just being told that he's going to Chuck'E Cheese's
So long DX frames and lenses! Now i'm going for the real deal. Cant wait! I know a lot of members here got the D700; so i'm pretty sure a lot of people will also bite the bullet with that hell of a machine. Who did it?

Dont think so; the girlfriend still use my D5000 and I dont plan on selling my D7000 ahah.
Anyway for what I could get from them; might as well just keep them. What are you looking for?

you're going from a $900 camera to a $3000 camera? i really hope you didn't chose the D800 over a D700 because it has more (tinier) pixels.

I was initially looking at the D700 before Nikon came forward with the release of the D800.
For the price difference (used D700 vs. new D800), I decided to wait a couple months more and get a brand new camera. Compatibility of many of my D7000 accessories also made the choice easier.

Thanks; Now I gotta save for some decent lenses.
I really want a fixed 200 and a 14-24 ultrawide. I already got the 50/1.4g on order along my D800. flyingfortress: I would have a 55-200, a 55-300 vr and a 12-24/4g for sale if the price is right. All Nikkor lenses in perfect condition. PM me an offer and we'll start from there.

From what I see I can get a decent price for the ultrawide on ebay but not much out of the zooms; Well no biggie; the gf loves them so that's saving me a debate LOL

I have a D700, not sure if I want a D800. Large files will be a pain and some lenses that worked fine on the D700 might not be so hot on the D800. I am putting off a decision for a while.

The good news is that i'm not gonna be in the first batch of owners. Its pre-ordered, yes, but I will get my order fulfilled only when all the preorders are sent and that stores are stocked enough; so that means june-july. So I have plenty of time to rebuild my PC and switch to SSD. That and two 95mb/s 32gb cards should do the trick just fine. (Or even faster if I ever switch to CF) But that's a lot of money; new camera, new computer, new cards, new glasses. But oh well. I wanted to make the move for almost 6 months now. Gotta pay to play. And IF (I really doubt, but...) the reviews are THAT bad; I always have the option of cancelling and ordering a D700 at clearance prices or just continue to struggle with my D7000 and buy better glasses in the meantime.

I think it will be pretty uncommon to see the 75mb files... There would have to be lots of super bright colours and huge noise reduction settings registered in the camera.
I'm expecting you'd see maybe 45-55 range on most shots (not like that's a small file or anything). I could be wrong though. On 21 megapixels, I'll only see 30mb on a very rare ocasion, usually 27-28 |

Struggle with a D7000? I know people who would kill for one of those. They're made of unobtanium lately. No one has them in stock. What don't you like about it?

The1: You're right, but if I'm gonna rebuild a PC; might as well exagerate the numbers a bit and still be sure that your machine will eat them alive.
Maybe struggling wasnt the right word ahah. I like the D7000; Its a good camera; but smaller frame compared to the new FX sensor. I know it goes HIGHER then MSRP on ebay right now because nobody has it in stock. I know most of my gearsgrinding comes from my DX lenses. And to be honest, I think the Autofocus could be a bit better. I always feel like I get WAY better results when I take my time and focus manually. For fast action paced shots, I have a hard time getting sharp images on long distances because it never focus where I want it to (Hockey shots are the worst). The D800 improves the system a lot from what I've read. I know a decent customer would invest in good glasses first and then go from there. But i'm not one of those decent customers. I was purchasing a FX lens (50mm 1.4) and was considering going FX one day. But the release of the D800 really intrigued me and lets just say I had an offer I couldnt refuse I always liked to learn and work on the best tools and I guess I adapted this mentality to photography too. I dont NEED a FX right now, but since i'm at the early stage of the learning process, I dont want to limit myself to DX sensors only. My gf always says that i'm the "go big or go home" kinda guy. Its cool to have the best toys out there. Especially when you dont spend a day without at least spending 2h talking or reading about that new passion of mine... Or sickness like she would call it. ahah We're on a bimmer forum after all! So I guess you all can relate. We drive the best cars; even if we could still go to work in a rusty civic. You're still gonna make it from point A to point B, but in a lot less brillant way

I thought about it, but after reading a couple pre-reviews, I decided it wasn't for me. I had to sell my 70-200 f/2.8 awhile back, and I've really missed it, so I decided to buy it again with the TC20III. Plus my 300s has been great for me - and the extra reach of DX is a bonus.

Yep; it falls into DX mode as soon as a DX lens is attached to the D800 body.
But if you cant do both; I guess thats the best option to keep your 300s and get your lens back,

Yes, but the 70-200 f/2.8 is an FX lens.
