My beloved dog has passed away...
She was a great dog, had her from a lil pup for 13 years now.
I know its not the sort of thing people are intrested in hearing, but if anyone has gone through this and can give some word's of advice it would be greatly appreciated. This is not the first time I have lost a pet or even someone close in my life, but it still doesnt make it any easier everytime we have a loss. My mom's a mess, she was indeed her best friend, day in and day out they were together. A little about her: She was always a very playfull loving dog, we had adopted her from someone in the Bronx when she was only a few weeks old. She was so young at the time, we had to nurse her with a bottle for a few weeks, tho we didnt want to take her away from her mom, the owner insisted the pups needed to go because the mother could not take care of them. We brought her home and named her "Tequila" (which still is one of my favorite drinks) Tequila grew to be a great dog, and had 10 pups of her own when she was about 2 years old. We had given all the pups away to good friends, I still get to see her pup's once in a while. As time passed, you can tell her age was starting to show, she wasnt as active or playfull, but still a great companion. Lastnight she had problems breathing, this morning I noticed she seemed very bloated around her mid-area and her breathing was worse. My mom told me she think's it might be her time, and said her goodbye's. Me and my bro took her to the vet, they examined her and he said "She has a collapsed lounge, with liquid gathering all over" We asked what our options were, and he told us there is nothing he can do for her. He said we could take her home, and she might live for a few more days, but it was very evident she was in discomfort and would have suffered loads of pain. We decided to put her to sleep so she would not suffer anymore, she passed very peacefully in my arms. In a way I just wanted her to stop suffering, but was also devistated we had to loose her. Here's a pic taken a few years ago on my birthday, this is the way I will always remeber her, strong, loving, and caring.

Oh my.....that is one of the saddest things we have to go thru as humans. I went thru it with 2 of our dogs. Cried for days. It still hurts, especially after reading your sad story.
My thoughts are to remember the fun you had and to know that you did the correct thing in allowing her not to suffer anymore. You may feel mad for what you chose to do, but trust me, she is in a better place. Take care. |

This reminds me that my dogs(well my parents) will die eventually. That will be a sad moment. They may piss me off sometimes and eat my god damn food when I'm not looking but they are family.
Sorry to hear about it man. Best thing might be to get a new puppy. That way it can somewhat feel the same.

From a fellow dog lover, it will suck for a while. I had to get rid of all my last dogs things the day after I put her down. When the pain eases up start thinking of one to carry on.

Sorry about your loss Dleo.
I had to put my dog to sleep too. about 3 years ago on a xmas day. It was the worse xmas ever after living with this dog for 13 years. I now have his ashes on my home office desk.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, it really does help.
We spoke about getting a new dog, but we all agreed not right now. After reading the thread and the comments its evident there are alot of pet lovers out there, and most have gone through it. I had a talk with a good friend of mine who is professional in grief counseling. Basically the time old question of "Is it better to have love and lost, or never loved at all" was brought up, and after all the great memory's with my dog I would do it all over again in a heart beat.

Been through it myself a few times, it really is a horrible feeling.. Sorry to hear about your loss..
As George Carlin says, "Buying a dog is like buying a mini-tragegy, it always turns out bad." I have a dog now that I adore, and she is getting up there in age... Ugh.. |

Sorry to hear about your dog. I also lost mine a few months ago (the one on my avatar). Still hurts. We also decided to hold off on another one for now. With time you will feel better, but you will never forget her. Take care and remember the good times you had.
