Blackberry Vs Iphone
Has anybody gone from the Blackberry to the Iphone? I love to make that switch, but I am worried that the Iphone is not strong enough for my heavy email needs.
Can anybody compare and contrast? Right now I have a MacBook Pro. I am either going to keep that and get an Iphone or get rid of it and get another PC and go with Blackberry. One big issue I have...I really need to stay connected with my exchange server... |

I went from my 8100 blackberry pearl to an unlocked blackberry 8300 (curve) on t-mobile. I then went and picked up an 8gb Iphone and had it unlocked. It was a GREAT device, but for work and keeping tabs on my emails my blackberry just was unstoppable to be honest. The Operating system works flawlessly, the email setup is easy and push email is the best thing out there.
I got rid of the iphone and went to a t-mobile blackberry curve. I love it. I may check out the iphone once the new series is released come December/January. |

I'm interested in this as well. I currently have a Blackberry Curve and have been thinking of swapping it for an iPhone. This is my 2 cents: Blackberries will work like a charm. IMHO they (along with Treos) are for business people who need to stay connected at all time. Iphone on the other hand is more for style (just more innovated) bbt can also be used to for business needs. So it basically boils down: give up some functionality for style or go with functionality all the way...

if your phone is for work, go with the blackberry
if it's for play, iPhone. i have an iPhone and i couldn't see it as being a useful device for checking email quickly. i use it for mp3 player, camera, any internet site, and youtube. oh yeah and a phone/texting device. but that's it. email is pretty clunky on it. never used a blackberry but i hear good things about it. |

I have made the switch from a Pearl to the iPhone. I forward all my work email and have it set up via IMAP through yahoo. So it works flawlessly with iPhone.
Also iPhone has Terminal(3rd party app) which is great since I can access my work server through SSH/UNIX. I LOVE the touchscreen and infact prefer it to the blackberry keyboard. Its soo responsive and intuitive. It takes some getting used to but after 2 weeks you become a pro. Now I don't need a phone + iPod + laptop(not as often, but still need it off course). Just one device. I can surf the internet on the train, listen to music, and check work email. |

I went from an Blackberry Curve to an iPhone. I agree that the blackberry for business is where is shines. But I think the iPhone is much more. Where the iPhone lacks in emails it gains in almost everything else. But don't get me wrong the emails are awesome on this phone. You can receive full html emails. Which is awesome. And the internet on this phone is second to none.

Like someone else said, it all depends on what you want to do with it.
I went from a Nokia N series to the Curve and youll have to wrestle this phone from my cold dead hands before I give it up. I do over 2k texts a month and theres no way I could do it as quickly or easily on the iPhone as on the curve. The way it coordinates everything I need is easy to find. The ability to program a different ring or tone for every function is extremely useful to me as well. Did someone say MMS capabilities? Oh, and for websurfing, I just downloaded Operamini yesterday and its the best thing in the world. I dont store video or mp3s on my phone, nor do I need it for a camera. If I wanted a phone for something like that I would get the N95. My personal problem is companies that make you use their proprietary software. I dont agree with that.

I love my bed but that doesnt convince anyone want to switch mattresses either.
How about you add to your post how you use it and maybe that will help the OP understand whats to love about it.

I love my iphone as well as my mattress.
I just got an iPhone a few weeks ago, and for me I really couldn't ask for anything else in a phone. I'm a builder, so for work having email at my side is nice so I can check it whenever I want, but its not a necessity. I don't need to modify word documents or write 25 page documents on my phone, so for me this phone is perfect due to the user interface and the fact that web browsing is like i'm looking at the web pages on my laptop (with a little more work involved for zooming in/out, etc). Before buying this phone I never had a smartphone, but I have used my friend's blackjacks and cingular 8525 or whatever it is, and there is no comparison as far as internet browsing, and the whole user interface overall. I have never used a blackberry so I can't help you out there. I hear that they are excellent for business though. It depends on your own needs. For me, the touch screen interface combined with an amazing web browser are what sold me on this phone. Add in the fact that I can check my email/send email, use it as a camera, and a video ipod and I really can't ask for anything else out of a phone. I am very happy with my purchase. This is coming from someone who isn't an apple nut, and thinks that the iphone is the greatest device known to man-kind, but overall I think its a great phone.

Well for starters the keyboard. Theres no buttons so its a very sleek looking phone. The keyboard is great, takes a few days to get used to but once you do its the best thing since sliced bread. For those who text this is the phone for you. Youtube is a great feature to pass the time with . The internet is by far the best ive seen on any phone. Email is a tad slow but works perfect for me. All my school and work emails are sent to me which helps a lot. It also allows you to open but not edit certain excel and word docs. Theres also apps out there that let you use a word processor on your iphone. Its great being able to ditch your ipod and just combine it with your phone. And lets be honest apple has a the best well rounded mp3 player. Google maps is great for those who dont have navi. Realtime traffic is a bit optimistic but helpful. Weather feature is nice. If you travel to different cities its nice to see the weather instantly. I think this feature was really meant for girls though. For those who care the camera is ok. Overall the phone rarely slows down, non-glitchy imo. Wifi is great. Edge network can be slow but fast in comparison to the majority of the competition. My only gripe is having to constantly clean the screen and some flash and other media not available on the browsers yet. 9/10

^ Good point... I forgot to mention google maps and the weather app is useful also to get the 7-day weather forecast for whatever cities that you have programmed. When I took a trip to Charlotte last week (I don't know my way around there too much) I got a flat tire, and google maps helped me search for the closest store so I could buy a plug and fix the tire in the parking lot. The phone is just really convenient. I really have no complaints about it, it does everything that I need a phone to do.

I understand the curve has many of the same features as the iphone, I suppose that the biggest deciding factors between the two is if you want buttons or no buttons.

if you buy the iphone you're more into style than functionality. The reason being that the Curve can play music and take pictures too. It also has most, if not all, the features that the iPhone has.
Those commercials that are like "every moning I grab my ipod, cell phone, and camera and head out the door. Now I just grab the iphone and I'm set" are BS. |
