BMW Named Second Most Valuable Automotive Brand in the World by Brandirectory

COMMENTS

Brandirectory has published its 2014 list of most valuable global brands. Toyota was listed as the most valuable automotive brand (and #11 overall), while BMW was ranked as the second most valuable auto brand (#17 overall).

As with any brand ranking lists, the methodology behind the brand valuation has a huge impact on the ranking order. The components used to determine the valuations on Brandirectory's list were Brand Strength Index, Brand Royalty Rate and Brand Revenues [full explanation].

VW owns a lot of other brands, I presume that's one reason why.

Is it BMW AG or just the BMW brand? I'm thinking it's the latter because if we're talking about the entire auto group, don't see how BMW with just MINI and Rolls Royce would be more valuable than what Volkswagen has under it's umbrella.

I'm fairly sure this is just based on the brand, not the company. So BMW, not BMW AG, and the VW brand, not all of its other companies as well.

If this is based on just the brand value, I fail to see how Toyota is above BMW.

Isn't Exxon mobile the most valuable brand in the world?

It has by far the largest market cap and revenue as well
