It's hard not to be cynical about the actual reason, but if I'm wrong and they indeed are paying their respects to Steve Jobs in this way, kudos to them.
these companies own massive intellectual property portfolios. they each infringe other the other's technology patents and if they sue each other, they are going to ensure mutual destruction. that's why.

You guys realize that Samsung makes a 1/4th of the components that go into the iPhones right?

You obviously haven't seen or handled the Galaxy S 2. It is a great phone, with the specs of the 4S, that came out globally in March 2011. I look forward to the next Galaxy product with great anticipation.

That's why what? I'm not sure what you're referring to in my quoted post. Trust me, I'm well oaware of their patent/IP wars, and that was the point of why I was so cynical that Samsung would do what they did in this case.

Yeah of course, but I struggle to see what that would have to do with paying respects to Steve Jobs by delaying the announcement of a phone. It just doesn't make any sense, given the context. I'm with Blake's theory on this one.

It has less to due with providing a reason why they would pay respect to Steve Jobs (Google's CEO may have more to do with that, don't forget that it was a joint release for both Samsung with the Nexus Prime AND Google with Android 4.0) but it more just shows that there is a complex relationship between Apple and Samsung right now. Samsung makes Apple's processors. So people saying Samsung products are shit and Apple's are better quality is a bit laughable.

Absolutely agree.

There are a metric shit ton of critical components made by Samsung in the iPhone, as you pointed out.
