Poker players.
I know there are a lot of Asians out there. So do any of you guys play poker? If so, what skill level would you consider yourself and which type do you prefer to play ie Texas Hold'em, Omaha HiLo, etc.

I'm a novice with an unorthodox style of play..........
and I play no limit texas hold'em for gas money....... The last tournament that I was in......I limped in with: K 9 suited hearts.....the board flopped: A Q 7 All Hearts The small blind had ? ?....and he bet out $5,000 in chips. I slowly called. 4th street came a blank(maybe 2 of spade)...... The small blind bet another $10,000.......I called. More than 75% of my tournament chips are in the pot.... The river was another A....the small blind moved ALL IN...I had no choice but to call because I was 75% pot committed with the Nut Flush hand. The Small blind flipped over....a pair of 7's........Freakin' FULL HOUSE! Somehow I knew I was beat after the board paired up. You could call it BAD BEAT or whatever.....but I lost.... Because I made the mistake of limping in with K 9 suited in the 5 seat from the botton.... I can't wait to head out to Vegas again this Christmas.....to play some more tournaments!

I already started. I just put money in yesterday. Since I got my license suspended, that's what I'll be doing for a while. I plan on making enough money to buy some nice things for my car whenever I get my license back.

I'm a seasoned player. Nothing beats playing real folks, though. Play online sucks (I've tried it). Just doesn't feel right and on top of that, there's no intimidation factors or reading involved.
Play Texas Hold 'em. Was the first one in my area to get 11.5g chips. Today you can buy them in Wal-Mart. |

Went to this Casino called Artichoke Joe's up in san mateo area when I lived up there. Sat for 30 min, won one $150 hand on a 3/6 table and bounced. Pocket rockets to start, raised preflop but since it was limited, couldn't do much damage. Flopped Ace of heart, and two other hearts, knew someone caught a flush when everyone started raising.
5 people were in the pot and EVERYONE raised once before the turn except for me. Turned a Q of some other suit, another round of rasing. I just called, just couldn't throw away the trip Aces. River came up Q of hearts. My heart jumped, but I started yelling to my friend that was waiting for me, going... awwww wtf, these f**kers caught the flush, damnnn!!!! Another round of raising, except I also raised, pushed 2 guys out, 3 of us left. Far corner guy turned over a pair of low flush, guy next to me immediately showed his nut, and I just said, sorry guys, showed me rockets, stacked the chips and left. Wasn't nice, but it was a weeknight and I was just out having dinner with a friend and happened to check out the place.

Played a few hours of Caribbean poker on a cruise two weeks ago. Charged $400 for me and the wife, spilt the chips. I worked up to $415 and stopped, found the wife dropping her last $20 on blackjack. So I won enough to pay for my two Remy Martins, straight up.
Used to play nickle/dime/quarter dealer call with the relatives all the time. Now we play Hold 'em at family parties. I play about every month with some previous coworkers. They invite me because I'm dead money wlaking, but $30-40 for an evening the normally includes some food and drink isn't half bad. |

I play on ParadisePoker. I suck. I am just good enough to break even for the last 7 months. Been playing on the same damn $50. I'll win some, go enter a few tourneys, lose it all, go back to the $.50/$1 table, win it back, lose it in a tourney, etc...

Now Wal-Mart is selling poker tables, hats, and cups. And more chips. I used to be the cool cat with the only chips, and they'd all come to me to play poker but now all those bastards have chips and never invite me anymore. Actually, come to think of it, they don't invite me because I'm a shark, hah. UncleWede - that's impressive - but can you beat me? I worked up to $200 from $30. In a 2/6 limit rake table. I also lost $100 a few days later in one hand going all in in a NL table - NL folks play too rich for my blood. |

I'm not asian but I play Limit and NL Hold'em. I'm not a great player or a fish. I've played in Tunica & Phildelphia MS, Foxwoods, all the big cardrooms in LA. As for LV I haven't played in all the poker rooms (new ones open all the time), but I've played in a good share. I hate online play. Yes..you see more hands online, but IMO online players give away too many tells in live games.
Most intimidating-loose players: LA Most solid-aggressive players: Tunica/Phildelphia MS. Best place to find a good mix of good/bad players: Foxwoods and LV. I haven't played in many live tourny's, but I've either finished in the money or top 1/3 in 50% of them. I'm really trying to become a better cash game player. Speaking of cash games, I have one tonight at 8pm. |

I played 2 tourneys. Placed 7th out of perhaps 300 in first, and placed something like 17th out of 600 in second. Both money finishes.
For the 7th place finish, I got about $200 for $8-buyin. 17th I got about $40 for $10 buyin. EDIT: I love the feel of tournament a LOT more than public rake tables. In tournament, people are more wary and aren't stupid enough to call everything. It's a whole different mentality to me - I picture it as "survival of the fittest". I'm not playing to rack up the most chips but to just survive, hahahah. In each tournament, I remember only having about 3-5 good hands. That's it. |
