not sure why your trying to discredit me unless i said something to you in the past to piss you off . It only takes 3-5 years of experience to reach senior level in accounting. In the big 4 you move up pretty quickly once you get your cpa

Were you there during the SOX days? That's a really fast progression. At least compared to my firm and friends I have at other big 4 firms. The average person doesn't get promoted that fast anymore.

I started pre-SOX and got some quick battlefield promotions due to the Sox implementation. When I left the firm, they pushed back the promotion cycle. Now, the expectation is Senior at 3yrs, Manager at 6 years. I certainly wasn't prepared to be promoted so quickly but it really upped my market value when I went into private.

According to that thread you would have done your EY internship ~6mo after I did mine, but now you're already a whole level above me (I'm an A2). I'm jelly you got promoted faster than me, I know I'd love the extra money .

Let me just give you an example. You buy and sell stocks. Lets say you sell some stock for a loss. Normally you get to use that loss to offset your capital gains. BUT lets say 20 days after you sold the stock for a loss the stock had fallen further and you decided to get back in and repurchased the shares. Well guess what, that's a wash sale and the IRS will disallow the deduction of the loss on the original sale. Stuff like that is why we can't give you a clear picture. So aside from us saying it will be most beneficial to you to file as Married Filing Jointly because your wife has no income, there is nothing more than we can tell you. For anyone that is interested, this is a really easy to read comprehensive guide to taxes rules for 2011 (and potential future changes) that I got from my tax people today: http://www.sendspace.com/file/8pzv96
