Does anyone have any first hand experience with a Volvo XC90? Need a grocery getter suv which will be used for mainly transporting Merchandise/ luggage around town (<30 miles a day). Looking at a few 2003 XC90's ranging from $7-8k, mileage is kind of high but doesn't concern me.

Things in mainly interested in are reliability and service cost. The other suv I was looking at was an rx300, but those are marked up like crazy in my area. For the same cost, the XC90's would have lower mileage and be a newer model.

There is a reason why they are cheaper. I can pretty much guarantee that you'll be in the dealer more often and spending more money with the Volvo. Toyota (Lexus) makes a very boring but extremely reliable car. My parents have clocked well over 200k on several Toyotas and all they do is change the oil... sometimes. My father still has his 1998 4Runner with 340k on the clock.

i don't disagree with the previous post about the toyota products, but ive owned a couple of newer ('10 and '11) Xc90s and they were great family cars. I didnt have either more than a year, and those had free maintenance, so i cant speak to reliability. I'm sure there are some long term owners on the volvo forums you could ask such as swedespeed.com

My stepson and his wife have one for her. They've had it for over three years now and I've not heard them having any issue with it at all. I'd have heard of any issues since I'm the "car guy" in the family. I've driven it. It nice. Gotta like the transverse in-line 6 setup.

i had a s40 t5 for around 5 years, and never had one problem. I beat the crap out of it also.

Aunt had a XC90 and never had a single problem with it. She got a G37 ( I know what a change ) and she misses her XC90 ever since. Go for it.

My friends have an XC90 R that is actually pretty sweet. They don't have any problems with it, but it is relatively newer.

What? Volvo is very reliable. As someone who knows people who still DD their 240s and classic Volvos, there is no problem with them. I own a 850 and it drives perfectly well.

My dad owns a '08/9 XC90, it's great. It's never been to a dealer for major problems (not nearly as much as BMWs with their HPFPs and whatnot...). It's comfortable for a family SUV, it's huge, but third row seating is a bit cramped. it's a great car.
