Intermittent Starting Problem (VW)
So I've got a winter (beater) car and I have had some problems with it. I'm wondering if you guys could give some opinions on it.
1.4l gas motor. 100k miles. Car will start in the morning or after being off for a while 100% of the time. If I turn it off, then turn it back on after (let's say, going into get some gas or something), the car takes 3-5 seconds to turn on. Then after that, there is a slight gas smell and some smoke coming out of the exhaust. The starter always works 100% of the time, the fuel pump can be heard when I turn the ignition on. I can take a trip out of town a few hours away with this car and have never had a problem (aside from this taking to long to start up). What should I try to swap out/inspect before taking it into a mechanic? |
