Speeding Advert Will Leave You Speechless [Video]

Quote:
South Africa has a pretty poor safety record when it comes to road safety. We believe that there are many reasons for this.

In first world countries with effective policing, safe/roadworthy vehicles and well-trained drivers, the authorities concentrate on other problem areas.

The New Zealand Transport Agency created this advert to show the effects of speeding and the need for consideration of other road users. You may want to put your coffee cup down for this.
Shocking but brilliant. You have to watch this!

Great video but unfortunately the assholes of the world probably will shrug it off as baseless propaganda.

We'd literally save tens of thousands of lives if everyone went with the flow of traffic, never tailgated, and stayed sober.

Great video, but the driver of the Subaru is just as much to blame for the accident. Why did he pull out right in front of the other car? Even if the speeding driver was going 15-20 kph slower, this would've still been an accident.

But I digress... It's a really great video regardless. Really puts things in perspective when you want to "have fun" on public roads.

The guy who pulled out is more at fault then the speeder IMO.

Same goes for pedestrians these days. Always blame the drivers, never the pedestrian who just step out in front of 3000lbs of moving steel.

Meh, you don't look before you pull out of an intersection, you are at fault

The point is if he were going 15-20 kph slower (the entire time he was on that road) he would have been a half kilometer further down the road and the accident would have never happened at all.

REALLY good ad for sure.

I don't mean to argue, but that's circumstantial at best then. He would've also been a half kilometer further down the road if he had opted to stay in bed a minute longer. Does that mean we should all stay in bed an extra half minute every morning? No.

Point is, the ad is very well done; the cinematography and acting are superb, but that doesn't deny the fact that the guy in the Subaru is, frankly, a bad driver. The first time I saw this video a while back, I honestly thought that it was trying to showcase the consequences of inattentive driving.

Who knows? Maybe, subconsciously, it is...

It doesn't matter who is at fault when one is dead. Point is simple, going slower means more time for midcourse correction. Would you rather be dead or be right.

If somebody pulls out right in front of you then speeding is irrelevant at that point. A collision is imminent. Sure let's just make the universal sped limit 20mph then nobody will ever get hurt, right? Aggressive speed limits aren't the answer; better drivers who actually pay attention to what they are doing is.

There are instances when people pull out on a seemingly empty road or a car that looked far away only to find out that an oncoming car is going multiple times the speed limit. Also, by not going too fast, you'll have lots of advantages in a given situation:
1. time to think + react
2. more room to react evasively + brake...room for braking is a huge gift!
3. If a collision were to happen, it almost always promises less damage.
4. the other party will have a better chance of evading or correcting the situation

This is not to say to be speed limit drivers, just go with the flow. If you're alone and unsure, just drive to where you think is reasonable and comfortable which equates to speed limit for me. No matter how skilled a driver is, all drivers make mistakes so be prepared for them.

I've been close to an accident when pulling out of my house. The road looked empty, I pulled out, only to find an e92 going WOT. He must've taken a turn since I didn't catch him from the distance. He didn't even bother changing lanes despite an extra empty lane. I almost crapped my pants and stepped on it to evade the sending me into the counter lane. Am I at fault here? Yes, I didn't give the "emptiness" a third, fourth, or possibly even a fifth look. Was the 335 driver at fault here? I can't answer that without being partial to my side so I'll leave it at yes, he's at fault too.
