Drove the RS4 and R8 on the track
I went to visit my buddy in Chicago and drove the R8 and RS4 on the track at the "Audi Driving Experience".
First, we did a few drills in the A3, A6, S4, A4 and then we spent some time on the track in the RS4 and R8. I had the option of driving the S5 or RS4 on the track but I picked the RS4 because I knew its faster. But I wasn't too impressed with the RS4. Sure, its a nice car, handled & sounded good, good power, but I just wasn't too impressed. The RS4 handled better, but in a straight line my 335 PROcede feels a little faster. Also I found that the steering was a little light and lacked some feel. But anyway... The R8 was quite impressive. Everything about it was great...looks, sound, power, interior, handling etc. I did enter one of the corners too fast and ended up on the grass understeering, but got back after 3 seconds and continued rapping the track. Just wanted to share.... very cool experience.

That sounded like fun. How does the R8 stack up against the RS4 in terms of driving and sound? Is it that much better? Do you think it's worth 120k?

We are talking about 1/4 mile tracks? A properly driven RS4 traps 108-109, that's procede'ed 335 territory.

I'd like to see more one on one track comparisons between the two before I'd make any bets that the 335i can beat the S5. I'm sure it's close.

There is no comparison between the R8 and the RS4. The R8 drove amazing. The sound is similar to the RS4, nice, but the handling, pull and feel is much better than the RS4. Plus, the looks are in a totally different league.
Seriously, the RS4 wasn't a big deal. I can see a 335 PROcede with good tires, keeping up with the RS4 on the track.

Hey E90ice...
I am jealous! I would kill to drive the R8...I saw one the road here for the first time a couple weeks ago and it looks awesome (pics don't do it justice). Makes sense that it felt a faster than the RS4 since the RS4 is at least 250 lbs heavier. It was good to meet you a couple of weeks ago at the BC/WA meet. |

I have seen many tests -- Euro mags, Asian, even US and NONE (but the people on this board) claim that 335 or chipped/PROceded version of it can come close to the RS. Also, all Euro mags clearly give S4/5 0-62 advantage over the stock 335... Ah, also, if the straight line accel. is the only thing that impresses you (since according to you it handled better and according to the rest of the world interior is far better, exterior is subjective), than go PROcede 335! Lets be real here people... |

I HAVE the PROcede and it IS faster in a straight line than the RS4, as plenty of other people have proved that and also the upcoming videos from the Swedish airfield event where the 335 PROcede beat the RS4 once again. The interior did nothing for me. I'm not a fan of the Audi interior design, so I don't know what everybody is talking about. Nothing special. But that is subjective. I'm not sure exactly what your point was. Except the fact that it handled a little better, I honestly don't see any difference between a 335 PROcede and a RS4. and the RS4 costs 70-75k.
