MotoGP: Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix
It seems like just yesterday I was writing about the Australian Grand Prix. Oh wait...I was! The whole production is packing up and shipping off to Malaysia for the 26th and the Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix
Introduction: Specifically built for speed and exciting racing, the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia is one of the world’s best. The 2,300 acre complex which also houses a hotel, shopping centre, golf course and other sports facilities cost around £50m to construct and was built in just 14 months, holding its first Grand Prix in April 1999 and setting the standard for race circuits worldwide. With four slow corners following two long straights and ten medium to high-speed corners, the wide track is particularly favourable to overtaking manoeuvres and plenty of open throttle. One of the longest laps in MotoGP is made all the more gruelling for riders by intense heat and humidity. Sepang is located around 50km south of Kuala Lumpur city. Length: 5.543 m / 3.444 miles Width: 25m Left corners: 5 Right corners: 10 Longest straight: 920 m / 0.572 miles Constructed: 1998 Laps: 20 Total Distance: 110.9 km - 68.9 miles http://motogpbrits.com/wp-content/up...o3-500x280.jpg ************************************************** *********** The 2014 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix will be the 24th consecutive year motorcycle racing’s premier class competes in Malaysia. It will be held from 24-26 October 2014. Malaysia and motorcycle racing have a long connection. As far back as the 1960’s we were already hosting events with world-class machinery and riders. Throughout the years, there have been numerous winners in Malaysia across the various classes of bikes (Moto3TM, Moto2TM and MotoGPTM) but they have all shared a common trait, being among the best riders in their classes. The list is studded with multiple world champions and some of them have completed a triple crown of wins in all categories. With bigger impact this year, Malaysia will be having five (5) national riders competing in MotoGP. Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Ongetta-AirAsia Racing Team), Amirul Hafiq Azmi (SIC-Ajo Racing Team) and Hafiza Rofa (Wildcard Rider) are rivals for Moto3TM category while Azlan Shah (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) and Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia) are contenders in Moto2TM category. QUOTE: Valentino Rossi #46; "I love Sepang, it's one of my favourite tracks, but the race is always very difficult, also physically because it is a little too hot for a MotoGP race" Last edited by 954Stealth; 10-20-2014 at 09:55 AM.. |

Yamaha riding strong while Marquez aims for comeback in Malaysia
After 2014 MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez’s crash in Australia gave Valentino Rossi the opportunity to notch his second victory of the year, the Repsol Honda rider will be striving for nothing less than a win at Sepang. It is Marquez’s hunger for victory which drove him to this year’s title in fine style with 10 wins from the opening 10 rounds, though since then he has added just the one further triumph at Silverstone and has now gone four races without a win. Marquez still has the chance to match - and eclipse - Mick Doohan’s record from 1997 for most premier class GP wins in a single season of 12 victories. Last year at Sepang, Marquez was second in the race behind his Honda colleague Dani Pedrosa and he will aim to go one better this time. WHAT A RACE!
I wonder how it would have went if Rossi hadn't run it wide in that turn letting Marquez by. |
