The main circuit, normally raced in a clockwise direction, is 5.543 km long and noted for its sweeping corners and wide straights.
The layout is quite unusual, with a very long back straight separated from the pit straight by just one very tight hairpin, which is a great
spot for overtaking, especially in wet conditions.
Due to the usually very high temperature and humidity in Malaysia, racing in Sepang poses a challenge even for the fittest drivers:
Towards the end of the race, many pilots lose strength and concentration, which sometimes results in overtaking, spins or accidents.
The ever-changing weather complicates things further: In Sepang virtually no day goes by without a rain shower in the afternoon.
