So I checked out the new XF at my local Jag/Benz dealer...what a shame.
So this is the car that's gonna make or break Jag? Ooh, that's too bad. I don't think this bodes well for the company, 'cause the car is seriously lacking from my impressions, and I haven't even driven it yet.
Anyways, where to begin. I'll start with the quality, or lack thereof... So I walk into the dealership showroom, and the first thing I see is the new XF front and center. According to the CA it's the first (and for the time being the only) one over in the states. Cool, I guess. So I'm standing back and having a look at the car's profile. It's sleek, sporty, and it has just the right amount of aggression and classiness. The front is the high point of the exterior design. Apart from the Chrysler headlights, the overall impression I got was that you don't want this thing in your rearview mirror cause it really does look angry. I think the hood helps a lot. After I'm done looking at it from afar, I start walking up closer...this is where things get ugly. The paint is second rate; very dull and boring looking to say the least. It was that light sky blue-ish color that you see on a lot of Jags. It doesn't help this one at all. The window trim had ugly black filler strips between the windows and the body. The panel gaps weren't up to par with the competition. The taillights were a bit of a dissapointment. Design-wise they're executed very well (what with the Aston influences and all); Quality-wise, nuh-uh. No good. The materials or whatever the lights are housed in look like something that was on cars back in 2002. Very few LED's if any. Think of the pre-facelift, current-gen SL's - the ones that had the all red taillights. The headlights were fine. The wheels were good looking from a distance, quite big actually, but up close the finish was trashy. The silver paint wasn't very evenly distributed. So I decide to take a look inside. Before I even step inside I get hit hard by something very dissapointing: the doors. Opening these things makes you feel like you're gonna tear them off their hinges. The noise that they made was worrysome as well. After opening and closing them a few more times I make my way inside. First thing I notice is that the overall design is really well thought out. No serious flaws in any way, and the leather felt nice and smooth. A cool thing I noticed is that the air vents were concealed in the dash. The steering wheel was nice, but button placement on the 9 and 3 felt a bit far to reach with my fingers, and I have large hands. So those are the good things, now onto the bad... Pretty much everything else sucked. Seriously, everything. The details are what seem to kill this car. The buttons felt horrible...I mean horrible. They creaked when you pushed them, and they lacked any real click to them. I couldn't tell if I pushed them in all the way. The finish on the materials was below par. The wood laquer looked like it had orange peel akin to that of our cars'. The aluminum all had major scratches, especially the roatary knob drive selector thing. The bins felt like they were made of the flimsiest, lightest plastic possible, and the hinges connected to them were equally horrid. I'm seriously dissapointed with this car. I really wanted it to be good. It just isn't.

btw -- never liked Jag; not for how they look, but for the lack of quality and reliability.

If it's pics you want then it's pics you shall recieve. I only took pics of the front cuz I thought that was the only part worth remembering .
btw, there was an SLR vert there too. The paint alone was insane.

Sry bout the pic quality. I was using my BB Pearl. I think it has dust inside the plastic lense cover.

Jaguar is one car brand that I really don't want to die. There is so much history during their glory days, same with aston martin, and maserati. BMW needs to pick one of them up, and start making cars for the masses with one of those brands, and BMW and the roundel can go back to making proper driving machines.

I like it. They are only bringing the V8's to the states. Of course that color looks terrible on it. The vehicle comes loaded with everything around $60,000. Jaguars reliability has actually gone up a huge amount over the years, its above BMW...
All in all, I would keep my 335i over this vehicle anyday. |
