Revealed: Facelift Porsche 991
http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/mo...clusive-studio
Here it is. Traditional Porsche updates to keep the car desirable. Nothing that we haven't already heard from rumors. Still a fantastic car. |

So the Carrera is now a twin turbo? What is the 911 Turbo gonna be? Weird that all models now are turbo. It was the one thing that differentiated the Carrera-Turbo. So now there is no sense in buying the 200k 911 turbo. Just buy the Carrera and mod it to be just as fast as the turbo. Nice job Porsche

Same story in the macan and cayman. Most of there stuff is marketing anyway, how else do you convince people the Macan is revolutionary when it is based on a 5 year old Audi.

i like the .2 facelift.
i am interested to see if Porsche will be consolidating models. (ie no more turbo or turbo S) and what the performance numbers will be between the GTS, GT3, and GT3RS assuming they keep the NA engines in the GT3 and GT3RS...

Have to say I met up with 991 gt3 and gt3rs on track friday and was very impressed. Them driving relatively poor lines ate my lunch. I guess 125 or 150hp more at the same weight with better dynamics will do that.

The 991.2 C2S looks good IMO and the dual centered exhaust is pretty nice, but it just sucks that the C2S isn't going to have quads anymore

Now that 911 is turbo, M4 doesn't have a slight chance to be better in anything. Nice job, BMW.
Edit: Looked at the pics, all in general the 911 is such an ugly car. A real shame for something that is among the best sports cars in the world. Last edited by BMW269; 09-07-2015 at 07:32 AM.. |

Interesting to read the impressions here. I knew that the 911 (and all Porsche models) would be going turbocharged soon, but I was disappointed. Any time discussion on Bimmerpost swerves toward complaints that BMW doesn't make high-revving N/A motors any more, the reason given is that BMW can't meet regulations with them. Then all the N/A diehards trot out the Porsche argument. Looks like that argument is finally put to rest.
I think the car looks beautiful. in coupé form. Never cared for the cabrio. The facelift is very conservative, so not really much different from that perspective. The change to turbocharged engines should certainly be interesting though. They've given them a small bump in power, but based on what we know of the change between the E92 M3 and the F82 M4, performance figures should be up significantly.

Very, very few people tune their cars. That number might be higher in the Porsche community, but it's still a small fraction of the total 911 owner population. I'm sure protecting the 911 Turbo from buyers who will purchase a C2S and tune it was the last thing on Porsche's mind when they made this change. The top thing on their mind is the impact it's going to have on their buyer. There's a reason the GT3 remains naturally aspirated. Porsche believe that the purest, most precise engines are naturally aspirated. A large portion of their buyer demographic, unsurprisingly, follows those values. How are they going to react to this news?

I drove a new turbo 991, which was not mine on track at about 7/10ths, with owner in car. We were one second off of road and tracks hot lap. Not that I am that good, the car just pretty much does everything. I honestly was not even trying that much, just instructing the owner a bit. |

IMO, more BMWs get tuned proportionally than Porsches. Being on both brand's forums, I would say people rather trade up than tune their Porsche. |

I like it aesthetically. The rear vent change really shakes things up.
I'll reserve my judgments about turbo v. N/A until I drive the new 911. |

Car looks gorgeous. Subtle yet noticeable changes.
Still sounds sexy and exotic...and retains the flat 6 signature symphony. They will be even faster now, and handle even better. Hard to think you can do better than the 991 since everyone is still trying to catch up to it, even being 4 years old now. The 991.2 will just leap the game further ahead for Porsche and the 911. |

^Agreed^. There'll be an uptick in tuning enthusiasm for the turbo Porsches, just as there was for BMW when the E90 chassis turbo cars came out.
