National Geographic - BMW History
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Saw this while flipping through Youtube last night. Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere (did a quick search), but thought I'd share it for everyone to enjoy. edit: looks like the original video was taken down. I found another one. This is the most boring corporate advertisement ever. History channel is really going down the drain.

It's National Geographic, not the History Channel. However if you're watching the History Channel specifically WWII film-footage you'll be more than likely see a number of classic Bimmers driven by Nazis.

You do realize how old this episode is, yes? I mean, I still have my VHS copy that I bought when it was made available. The fact that my copy is on VHS should tell you how long this has been around.

Great video! I love that BMW made a straight 6 for Mercedes that won the 1914 French Grand Prix! Can't wait to drop this tidbit of knowledge on my Merc driving buddy!!!!

History Chan vs Nat Geo
In 1997, History Channel aired a brilliant weekly history series called Automobiles, with each episode featuring a single marque. I recorded the entire series onto VHS. This morning I rewatched the BMW history segment on my tape. It is identical to the National Geographic video posted above -- except that it has History Channel logos instead of NatGeo, the color, crispness, & aspect ratio are better on my tape, & my tape includes the original broadcast's ads (mostly for Dodge vehicles). The tape also includes some ads for a local Honda dealer trying to unload outgoing 1997 models.
National Geographic may have rebroadcast the same series & substituted NatGeo logo for History's. This is definitely not the same as the History Channel Automobiles: BMW DVD @ http://www.amazon.com/Automobiles-BM...707742&sr=1-11 |
