08 LS3 Vette 1/4 time...

Did you guys see this.

Wow, with just a simple tune and K&N CAI system this 2008 Corvette did the following:

402 rwhp with that set up.

That can't be more than $1000-1200 in mods to take the car from (what I understand is normally about 370 rwhp to 402 rwhp and from low 12's @ 116 to mid 11's @ 120 mph.

This is why I have a problem with the cost of the Blue Devil. Other than for Corvette collectors, I just don't see the worth when the stock engines can be so easily and expertly tuned by several dozen shops per metro area.

I understand what you are saying, but the same argument could be used when comparing a Carrera to a 911T or a Carrera to a CarreraGT. The BlueDevil will be much faster than a stock corvette. It reportedly provides a much upgraded suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and dual disk clutch. Its a totally different car.

Actually it'd be closer to $800 or so. Good dyno tune runs between $400-500, and the K&N cai should run around $325-350

i was going to say that $1200 seems a bit expensive for an intake and tune...after all, we're talking domestics here, not euros.


still, 30+ whp gain from and intake and tune? that's good bang for your buck.

At a far different cost level perhaps....

How much would it cost, and how many people in your area could convert and maintain a Carrera to 911T conversion? And if they could, is it cost effective? There is a company taking 911 engines and other parts and transplanting them into Cayman's...yours for the low low base price of $140K!

I'm saying $10K worth of mods to the base 'Vette (or buy a Z06) will get you 98% of on-track performance of the Blue Devil. I'm saying that other than for collectors who are 'Vette fans, I don't see the point. The Z06 is already a world class sports car beating almost everything you can throw at it on the track.

Do you really think there will be a market for it other than for 'Vette fanatics or for those who simply have so much money that $100K is the same as the salary for their personal Gulfstream pilot?

the difference is negligible. if they're really making those numbers, then Chevy's HP rating is conservative (aka the LS3 makes more power than Chevy claims)...but what else is new. companies do that all the time.

yup...otherwise:

380rwhp / .85 = 447 crank HP

390rwhp / .85 = 459 crank HP


...so again, either Chevy underrated the car and published seemingly low crank HP figures, or the dynos showing LS3 Vettes putting down 380-390whp are the same dynos that usually put out higher numbers. unfortunately this thread is about 1/4 mile times (and not about a particular dyno session), and so i can only guess what kind of dyno is giving LS3 Vettes such optimistic numbers. my gut feeling as that the dynamometers are responsible for the high WHP figures, and not an underrating by Chevy.

most of the dynos I've seen are in the 390 range (6spd not auto). The running consensus is that the LS3 is putting out around 450 HP stock. As good as the LS2 is the LS3 is even better when it comes to mods. People are seeing to close to 100 HP gains from just cam, intake, UD pulley and tuning. You had to change out the heads along with those other items to see that level of gain on the LS2.
