any advice on espresso machines
hey everyone just wanted to see if anyone here owns an expresso machine or knows about them (ie: brands, price ranges, etc). i spend around $10 a day on expresso drinks and was thinking maybe it might be a good investment to just purchase one. thanks in advance for all the help.

depends on your price range...they can start at $69 go up to $3000 for a coffee house-esque model...
what drinks do you get...and where...s'bux, dunkin, etc, etc. The machine you buy should be dependant on what you're going to make, the max temps it brews at, and the frequency you'll want to use it, clean it, and all that... For no nonsense, quick lattes and coffees I use the Braun Tassimo i believe my model # is T1600...very nice machine $160 range, you buy one-shot brew discs, called T-discs...comes in a lot of varieties and the machine knows exactly what to do for each one b/c they are bar coded. Dropped my daily coffee costs to a couple bucks a day, from my $60/week starbucks habit. if you're seriously looking for a standalone brewing unti with steamer and adjustable temps, etc, you should research the Breville Cafe' Roma series...good looking machine, with a lot of bells and whistles...runs about $250 basic, $350 loaded...I have one, but the cleaning and changing, and cleaning and changing got to me...so much to do, you hardly get to enjoy your damned latte or cappucino. once again...all a matter of your taste and what you need...there's a machine out there for every budget and taste.... good luck...enjoy your coffee.

Get one that grinds the expresso beans..you will get the freshest, most flavorful expresso that way. The tassimo system is good for speed but not a good real expresso taste. I have had Krups with automatic grinding and a Cappuccino steamer for 5 years with no problems.
These Germans build the best stuff. |
