Biggest I did was work all day, finish at 7 pm. Leave central jersey at 9 pm, drive 28hours straight to ft Lauderdale. I was 22. College. Couldn't do that now. Now I stick to 18 hours or less typically. DC to orlando for example.

by virtual of stopping for gas counts as a break...
I've never been able to outlast my X5d's 21 gallon endurance fuel tank...usually I have to piss about every 2 hours. The longest drive I've ever done by myself was really 8.5 - 9 hours. That's my personal limit.

I really dislike driving west via I10, thats a crappy day. Every road trip i've ever been on that started in FL has day one labeled as GTFO of FL as fast as possible.

Two years ago for Xmas we drove to Orlando in short hops. First stop was Nashville, about 5 hours, then Atlanta in 4 hours or so, then St. Augustine in about 5-1/2 hours. We stayed there for a few days and then drove the 3 hours or so to Orlando. On the way back we did Orlando to Atlanta then home. Two long days of driving, but by that time we were sick of hotels and just wanted to get home.

Worst road trip ever was after a freak blizzard hit Knoxville Tennessee in the mid 1990s. Hit on Friday night. Town CLOSED all day sat. Sunday afternoon we hit the highway. Usually an 8-9 hr trip. Took 32hrs. Highway closed in TN while we were on it. Then we drove a few hours and closed again. Just sat parked on highway for hours at a stretch. Never so glad to be home.

We planned each night to be special. First night was at the Gaylord in Nashville. It *sucked* getting in there because of the holiday, but it was pretty cool once we got in. Next night in Atlanta was some high end hotel that was giving away suites cheap because of the holiday. Can't recall which one now, but we had a nice 2-room suite. Third, fourth, and fifth nights were at Casa Monica in St Augustine. Very nice place. On the way home we stayed at the Ritz-Carton in Atlanta. Again, very nice.

If only - meet BMW's "Attentiveness Assistant" - it was kind of cool, it found a Starbucks for me.
