BMW VIN-decoder (BMW cars since 1928) + recently logged mileage (central data)
BMW VIN-Decoder for BMW Vehicles since January 1928 (including: motorcycles, Mini, Rolls Royce):
http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/ (German) http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html (English) (idem) (nowadays: http://www.bimmer.work/) Indicate the last 7 characters of any VIN of a BMW car ("Submit Query") and you get a complete list of all the production specifications (production date + production plant + standard equipment + optional equipment). You can also save the datasheet as PDF. Feel free to check yours. It is accurate. Alternatives: http://www.etk.cc/ and http://www.bmwvin.com EDIT: https://bmwvin.co.uk VIN decoder also showing recently logged mileage (Central Data) (hat tip to forum fellow lexmedia for the tip)

For a second I thought that the site would start listing my actual and future mod list as well! Absolute accuracy and only now I know the exact day of my car's production, 08.08.2011.

Maybe Dackel can tell us what BMW considers as 'production date': the day that a VIN is attributed/allocated to "something" (main body? chassis?) that will become a car, or the day that the car is finished and rolling of the factory production lines ? How many hours or days did it normally take to build a 1M. My guess is 1 or 2 days. The production line is pre-programmed and can handle all sorts of cars consecutively.

My 135is shows up as a 135i. Anyone else with an 'is' try this?
Updated. The 135is is a uc93. Should have known that.

I tried it last night as I was trying to figure out from that what "is" parts might be installed at the factory and which ones might be installed at the port and it also showed up as 135i. I had used a similar one last month though to confirm that comfort access was indeed installed on my car, since nobody knew what the deal was since it was showing as a no charge stand alone option on the configurator. =)
Why yes...I will take your free comfort access BMW...thank you very much! |

Very nice. I bought a 2004 330i ZHP Performance package and wanted to check it's original Option list because my car didn't have the rear spoiler which I added to the car. Sure enough the car was ordered with the Spoiler Delete Option.
Thanks

I imagine it shows up that way because it leaves the factory with the same engine and standard 300hp of any 135i, but is the PPK software that gets installed at the port when it gets to the US that bumps it up to 320hp.

The site shows my car with the correct list of options. My 1M is one of the few U.S. spec cars that was built with Nav without needing to also order the Premium Package and Convenience Package, thanks to an ordering glitch for a few days in September 2011.

Hmmm, maybe you can help me figure something out.
I have a 2010 135i with m sport. I put in my VIN, and it says:
Anyone know why it lists 135IS as the model name? It also lists my leather color as "Lemon", unless lemon means something else in German... |

Awesome link! Always wanted an options list on the e36 I have. Also, my 1M shows as a 28/06/2012 production. That's got to be nigh on one of the last to roll off the line??
