Beginner looking for nice camera

Hi I'm looking for a nice camera to start off with. I'm not looking for big DSLR's, I'm looking for cameras with wide lens and most importantly have a MANUAL function. Basically I want to be able to take it with me to many places so obviosly DSLR's will not work as well...also they cost too much . Any suggestions?

The Canon Powershot line is good. I'd recommend the G9, but that may be more expensive than you want.

my friend recomended me Ricoh GX2 or Panasonic LX2. What do you think? BTW I saw the G9 but I prefer LX2 have the wide lens for 16:9 shots.

The LX2 is good from what I've heard. Probably a good choice.

I also recommend the G9. I have a G7 and I'm a big fan of the G series.
