I noticed your from TO.

What I've learned (last 10 years being in Canada) is there is a big emphasis on organized activities and after school and all that kind of stuff, tends to be from the "moms"

Not saying they should not be doing something, as I said I teach her Piano, she helps me with the BM.

My wife spends her whole weekend ferrying ML around other than being damn expensive, poor kid doesnt know which day of the week it is

So true. Wasnt his fault he got turned wrong or ours. It's the no tolerance liberal school bs. He has adhd and is on prescribed aderall. He got in trouble twice in 7th grade when he didnt take it and couldn't control himself. Minor talking when youre not supposed to stuff. So he decided without telling us to take two pills to school for backup so if he forgot he would have them. One fell out of his bag, a classmate grabbed and took it, another ratted on him, the school labeled him a drug dealer and suspended him for a year. I fought it a half dozen times with a lawyer and no change. We homeschooled him as long as we could but we both work so second half of the year he spent in the "bad" kids school. He was surrounded by real drug dealers, sex offenders, etc. It changed him. So now we need to change him back before its too late.

Good news is its the prep school for the Citadel. Has a 98% college acceptance rate, and the graduating class of 90 or so students got $1.2 billion in scholarship money.

Time for the 'that is an outside activity. Your teacher is uptight, and if you do that indoors, life will get difficult' talk.

Kids do need to learn when things fit the setting, and when they don't; usually real good at it if they aren't bogged down in feeling that they are 'wrong'. And learning that adults can be wrong was the best thing I ever got out of my early elementary years (I credit the 3 days I spent having to write my name with the 'correct spelling' that was wrong hundreds of times before my folks found out what was up). Nothing like a mindless socialization-compliance machine to make them appreciate free thinking and individuality (not the snowflake kind).

I'm so glad my childhood was in the 80s. I could play NES when I wanted to. And of course go to the park and play some ball without having people freak out like "omg where are his parents."

Doctors checked her out and said, "Yep she's just a normal 6 year old" so I'm happy with that.

So now I gotta try and keep a straight face and dole out some punishment in front of mom.

Too much. Kid needs to be a kid...get in trouble and learn boundaries naturally. Helicopter parents (doesn't sound like you) trying to get their 7/8 year olds into Harvard....

I take my 5 year to the beach for 2 hours twice a week......and he plays pirates...thinks he is a dolphin...a turtle....we look for buried treasure and find sticks that are swords!

Gotta have free play......kids today are TOO organized with not enough imagination.

i think i was a kid at the perfect time, 90's and early 2000's. still had the internet and cool technology but it was more of an afterthought than a life consuming entity.

I wasn't perfect but I didn't want to disappoint my parents, respected their authority, and didn't do anything destructive to myself, others, or property. Kept my grades up and stayed out of trouble.
