1er, yay or nay?
I created a topic sometime ago in the offtopic forum, now for an offical poll.
Latest news of of Deutschland is that U.S. will be getting 1er coupe and cabrio, earliest in late 07' and latest in spring 08'. Only engine available intialy will be some variation of the N52 I6, most likely the 3.0 in what we know currently as the "325" , perhaps we will get a "130i" as well. Prices are said to be starting at $24k. The car will be marketed as the 21st century sucessor to the original 2002. Let the votes begin.. |

Since I'm in Europe, and have seen the 1 frequently, I like the styling and would be happy to drive one.

There seems to be some kind of push from within BMW to do a 1er sedan, but it's been said that they would really run the risk of eating into 3er sales, which I guess is true on some level, and I don't see the point of having an uber compact sedan(even though such cars exsist). I kinda like four doors better than two, but w/e, I'm sure this will be one cool Bimmer, and a nice grauduation present.

If the pricing actually remains in the range of the A3 or is minimally deviating from it, then I would seriously consider it for my g/f. I'd get her the hatchback...which I assume most folks here are referring to as the coupe. The 1 better make it to the states before she impulsively buys the A3 anytime now...

If they had a 130i in the states I probably would have bought that instead of a 330i

Damn, that sucks - it's out of the question, then. Hatches are so much more pragmatic in terms of space.

Wow...am I the only one who is totally against the 1 series coming to the States? I saw it alot on my trip to Italy...and I think it should stay in Europe. First, I didnt like the look at all. Second, and probably a reason a lot are thinking, not to be an ass but it would instantly lower the prestige of having a BMW. I dont think you should be able to buy a BMW with a price lower than 30k. I know a lot of you are just driving purist and if you can have a BMW for a cheaper price then great. But you have to keep a minimum price. and 24 k is too low.
Sorry if this offended anyone.

I have a stripped 325 (I have one option, ZSP), therefore the car did not cost that much. I assume a well equiped 130i would be very equal in price with the performance edge going to the 1, but the 3 in my mind is already perfect. This would be a very tough decision. I think I might try the 1 for myself and get a 3 for my wife.
So the question to BMW is will they make more profit by selling a well equiped 1, or a less equiped 3? I think they have to be really careful about canibalization and am frankly still surprised that they decided to bring it over across the pond. |

The only thing I'm concerned about is being my height and the potential of feeling claustrophobic in this car. If it's as big as a Z4 inside I won't have any problems, that car is very comftarble for me and feels the right size. Even better than a 987 Boxster/Cayman suprisingly.

It looks like a marketable car for the younger crowd to enter the realms of BMW.

an absolute yes! however, only if the pricing wasn't too close to collide with 3er's pricing like it is in EU.
