Seating for F1 at COTA
I am planning to take my son there next year and wanted to hear from others who have been to the track about which grandstands to try to sit in or avoid. Looking at the map it would seem that T12 and T15 would be cool since you would see the cars around a few turns or T4 to see them in the esses. I know I cannot buy tix yet but I wanted to print something to give to him as a Christmas gift. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iamjamen probably has a good opinion. Usually he's good at these things.

Turn 15 will give you the best view, but you'll probably pay a hefty chunk of change for those seats. If you sit up high enough, you'll be able to see the better part of the track including the S's, and the back straight along with the obvious turns 12-15. I sit here for MotoGP every year and haven't found a better spot! I'm not sure how much passing is done in that section for F1, but there's no shortage of action for MotoGP. Enjoy your trip!

I've been three times and bought GA all three times. Watching from one place all weekend would be extremely boring. Obviously you're free to roam around, but then what's the point of the reserved seating?
For quali I've always sat on the hill at T19. Seeing them come around the tower on the fastest laps of the weekend is awesome. for the race I've sat in the S's t3-4-5. They are really nice when you want to see the aero at work. They way they load up and the speed they carry is unreal. T1 is good for spectacle, but not much else. In 2016 we sat at T11 for the race. It's a good spot for overtaking and you may see a little carnage on the first lap there. The rate at which these cars slow down is not translated through television and is easily the most impressive thing about them. At least now with the v6's. |

First time at CoTA, we sat at Turn 11 back in 2012. Cool first time experience at the track, and there was more to see back then (Vintage F1, Porsche GT3, Ferrari 458 Challenge).
This year, we sat at Turn 12. Fewer races to see this year but view was much more exciting. Also, I highly recommend going up to the tower balcony during practice days / down time. $25 IIRC. Last year i was in the main grandstand across from hamiltons pit, which is sweet to watch but a bit difficult full throttle on the straight.
I think turn 1 will have nice action with drivers attacking one another following slip stream |
