Until we see some additional evidence that can confirm what the article states, I am not holding out too much hope here.

"No longer bedridden" can mean a lot of different things.
It might only mean he is able to sit in a wheel chair, for all we know. Things is, after 5 years of no interaction / stimulation, your brain is for all purposes dead. I am no brain surgeon, but I don't know if it is possible to bring someone back after 5 years of basically no brain activity. I have watched a few documentaries about the human brain, one in particular that fascinated me was this: The Brain with David Eagleman. One episode was about brain rehabilitation, and a patient that was in a coma for a few months only had massive problems adjusting to society again. |

Highly unlikely to be true. First is simple medical truth: central nervous system recovery plateau's around the two year mark. Recovery can progress significantly within the first two years of injury, but anything more than incremental improvement afterwards is pretty rare. The second reason is that his family has rigourously guarded his privacy. Nothing of substance has ever leaked and therefore anything "new" should be treated as highly suspect.
