Irwindale is only 1/8 mile. If he gets a good launch, then you might not have enough time to catch.

+1000. Even though your car is faster, if he knows how to launch, AWD will just shoot him out from the start line. And knowing all the traction problems tuned 335's have, im not sure if you will have enough time to catch up. SPECIALLY on Irwindale since it is a 1/8 track.

If you are both stock, I'd say race him since you have the step.

But $500 is at stake and I'm sure he will not be stock by the time you race. I would not race 1/8 mile - too short...

Since both cars are turbo, you better be ok with parting with 500 if it came to it. Turbo cars can easily be modded and what makes you think he won't have enough mods to walk u?

Is he MT or AT?

one thing I've learned from hanging with lots of Evo guys... they dont know the definition of stock....

to them a remap is still stock... so long as they have their 2L 4WD... they consider themselves stock...

I say don't race him... you will get your ass handed to you.. rolling start or from dead stop... but I am curious to the outcome nonetheless...

I've seen monstrous Evos that take on Stillen S/C (stage 4) 350Zs like they were parked... and those Evos only run a remap and exhaust...

and if u argue with them otherwise, they will say that tinting your windows is no longer stock.. changing your presets on the radio is no longer stock cuz u are messing with the way it came from factory...

I ay play it their way

get a JB2 or something... u r still stock (by their standards)

get a Procede v2 before you race with him, that way the v2 only cost you couple hundred bucks since you would take that $500 for sure.

Find a 1/4 track, then buy procede, up/down pipe, intake, slicks, and 100oct and pull out the pinks.

don't do it, evo is faster, the only way to do it is with a 2008 m3, otherwise you will loose some money, 335 is a great car, but 08 evo is a very light car with a powerfull engine.

invest 400 bucks in a JB2, and you'll make ur money back. he wont have a clue ur tuned. I raced my friend who has an STi with exhaust, and i worked him. Remind you .. im completley stock.

Key factors:

1. weather
2. length
3. mods
4. and most importantly ... the driver ( read up on how to launch, and practice a couple times)

i say go for it
