I like the idea. It might create a scenario where the championship is down to the fastest lap.

The two WDC contenders can still fight and defend even in different positions.
We will see how that work out throughout the season.

Remember, stuff like the turbo/hybrid engines were demanded by the manufacturers.

That way the hundreds of millions of spent developing the engines/technology would be relevant for their road car divisions.

21k RPM small displacement V10s and V8s, that idle at 4k RPMs don't really apply to real world.

I agree. Seems as though they could have just hybrized the existing V8s for cheaper.

It was. KERS or Kinetic Energy Recovery System was introduced in 2009 or so on a voluntary basis then mandatory later on.

Energy recovery + the 20,000 RPM sound = nirvana.

Yes, but the V6 increased the amount of recovery allowed with KERS while also TERS.

20k RPM, turbo V8. That would be delicious and probably too fast, for the FIA at least.

The current speculation is that Mercedes PU is around 1000hp when deploying KERS at the full rate.

The increased recovery and deployment is governed in the technical and sporting regulations, respectively.

I would love a 3.0L 20K RPM N/A V8 with KERS...no Turbo and no fuel flow limit.

You're correct about the MBZ PU. It was that around last season and should be a bit higher this season. It has surpassed the thermal efficacy of diesel engines at this point if the development rate has continued in this area. Here is an article from 2017:

Great post, my friend!

What's the worst about altering the points system all the time?? It's the fact that you can no longer definitively compare points scored yr-over-yr....allowing you to compare F1 history; I recall 1991-2002 when the top six were awarded points (10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1).

Check out the history of F1 point scoring:

Mainly Renault who was threatening to quit. The irony is just too much.

There was some huge Excel spreadsheet on reddit comparing the 25 point down system...........in something like the last 30 years it wouldn't have changed one championship.

Don't tell Lewis: Hamilton would have been champion with this year’s results any time before 2003

If every (1950-2009) used the 2010 Points System

well, to be fair we probably never could compare years very well. for example: in 1963, the year the GOAT (sorry MK) won his first WC there were 10 WC points races. in 2018 there were 22.
