Why Forced Mobile View on Phone?

For years I could hop on the site and have the desktop view on my phone. For the past couple weeks or so it automatically changes to the mobile view and I need to change it back to desktop on the phone each time. Not a big deal, but it is slightly annoying. Is it a Chrome thing? Is it an Apple thing? Is it the site? It seems to have changed right after the big updates that had happened here on the site.

I'd guess it's either the phone's browser or that the website detects a phone and pushes it to the mobile version of the site. I agree it's slightly annoying as some options aren't available via the mobile site but it's only 2 clicks to go back and forth.

It is the site that does this.
It is to conserve bandwidth charges.
