Carfection: New Porsche 911 GT3 992 (camoed): First Look with Andreas P

I found this video pretty interesting, and there's certainly eye candy to go with it:

Excited for this car even though I'm not super thrilled about the 992 in general.

curious to see the final form. and specs. but looks like it'll be the same weight and retain the 4.0. seems like they are focusing on better aero this generation with the swan neck wings and vents

Improved performance, Manual and PDK availability, a naturally-aspirated engine in a turbo world, will still happily rev to 9,000 rpm, and retains the same weight of the previous generation.

There really is no substitute.

No weight increase, despite being bigger.

I'm willing to bet that while it might not gain much weight, the price will certainly be higher. No such thing as free meal.

It can also be said that you get what you pay for. And when you compare the price of a Porsche to Ferrari or Lamborgini I'd say if performance is what you're looking for then it's good value for money.

Interesting statement, not quite sure where I stand on that.

On one hand, Porsche GT cars deliver driving experiences that are slowly going extinct (MT and NA in 2020? Yes please).

On the other hand, I also feel like these new cars are competing against the older cars now, and I'm not sure if they win, unless you're strictly talking about performance. For example, I'd rather have a pristine 997.1 GT3 for $60k cheaper than a 991.2 GT3. So are the new cars really great value for money? I'm not 100% sure. Another example is the 981 vs 718 GT4. The 981 was kind of a bargain considering they started in the 80s. When I build a 718 GT4, it's closer to $110k.

But who am I to say, it's not like I can afford these cars anyway

Doesn’t look that way! Porsche is just a step above all the rest in my opinion. I guess that’s why their customers keep coming back for more.
Awesome video!

porsche does alot of things to keep their customer base

- leases are very difficult.
- they know their market and how many to make to keep demand up and supply low.
- they dont cheap out (bmw scraping dct trans in favor of auto)
- they offer a huge variety of options within the 911 chassis (rwd, awd, na, turbo, pdk, manual, street car, track car).

It’s a bit of an unfair comparison. The massive VW AG sells all these boring Golfs and Polos and Seats and Skodas, and is therefore able to keep a small subsidiary brand like Porsche (as well as Lamborghini and Bugatti) as “the true enthusiast’s choice”. Porsche without VW AG would have disappeared by now or would be mostly making full size SUVs for the American market. BMW doesn’t have this luxury.

Six individual throttle bodies...can someone who's more technically advanced than me explain how this will improve driveability other than improved throttle response?

as far as i know you're right... it only really benefits response slightly.

the 2019 911 Speedster has ITBs as well so some people on the forums call it the 991.3 GT3 engine. Wouldn't be surprised if that engine is what they put in the 992 GT3.
