New 1100 hp Tesla

So, Tesla updated their cars and what's striking is the new power of their top model. I never liked simple styles of their cars nor their interiors. But 1100 hp and sub 9 - second quarter time and less than 1.99s 0 - 60 are ridiculous numbers... May be even as low as 1.7 seconds...

Existing Teslas are somewhat comparable to Ms and AMGs in accelaration, but this new one is far ahead.

Even M8 competition is like a kid's car comparing to new Tesla...

Are we driving relics? It will be hard to justify in the future to buy new M or AMG knowing that there is a 1100 hp car out there...

I agree, the performance aside, not sure I could get used to this.

Its fully automatic, doesn't even have turn signal, but it has Witcher RPG game!

I guess it can drive people for UBER at night, while you sleep at home ...

It's announced. Not shipped. Elon announces lots of stuff.

The HP race in EVs is stupid. It's easy to put a giant battery and giant motor in a car. It's apparently very HARD to consistently ship a quality product. He should probably focus on that. But that's just me. I don't want 1000 HP in a vehicle of questionable quality.

Perhaps not but I fully intend on giving it a shot. Might be a very short and very fast relationship, though.

C'mon BMW, time to give us a hybrid-powered M to offset this growing performance gap.

I would actually consider one now that the interior had been updated. I always liked the Model S just hated that the interior and battery tech was behind a less expensive Model 3. Also I'm 100% sure that steering "wheel" will not make it to production. Not only would it fail safety regulations, people are not going to get that use to it, it looks incredibly uncomfortable especially in parking lots when hard turns are needed. No need to reinvent the wheel.

The car starts looking to be ancient IMO but it does look better with its wider body/stance.
I wish they would have properly facelifted the exterior.

But the price/performance combo makes this thing an absolute bargain and hard to ignore

Wonder if it will last more than 7mins if you run it wide open like the last model? I remember seeing current version at the strip here in AZ only got to run twice and be plugged in... I don't think I'm ready for that kinda performance without still being able to just drive.

Remember when people used to get upset with Audi's flat bottomed wheels?

Agreed on all counts as the Model S was on my down select list as I've always been a fan. The pricing had gotten better as well given back when the P90D was released adding in the ludicrous speed package, auto pilot plus full autonomous when released, etc. pushed into $150k. That was somewhere in the $120K range with the P100D. However, the subject of this thread is the new Plaid+ offering and configuring up a Model S with it plus blue exterior ($1500), beige/black interior ($2K) and autonomous driving ($10K) is back to $152K. However, considering price for performance it definitely cannot be ignored whatsoever.

That said the all new interior still doesn't cut the mustard in my mind and I'd take my M850i interior over it any day of the week. One interesting aspect is they are now advertising the serious computing power (driven by Nvidia) as a "gaming" platform.
Game from Anywhere
Up to 10 teraflops of processing power enables in-car gaming on-par with today’s newest consoles. Wireless controller compatibility lets you game from any seat.
I'm a hard core gamer but its not going to do much for me considering I'd be driving vs gaming. It may be a value add for those with kids camping out in the back seats.

There is no mention if they have updated the audio in any way but rather just the same blurb as the past.
Your Best Audio System
A 22-speaker, 960-watt audio system with active noise canceling offers the best listening experience at home or on the road.
Based on my test drives of a P100D prior to knocking it off the short list there is no way the system (unless updated) touches the B&W in the 8-series. As for best listening experience at home, that is an absolute joke for any audiophile with an home audio investment to match the passion.

The real world performance of the 762 and 777hp P100D did not match claims.

Adding 250hp to a 777 hp 5000 lb car will not make it an 8 second car.

I raced the P100D when my 991 was at 660 wheel hp on a mustang dyno and this was the actual real world result AND on a fully charged and warmed battery.

I am sure very little is changing in terms of build quality or interior/seat comfort on the facelift model; as for the suckers that spent $10k for a non-existing, non-refundable feature and have been for years I suppose I can't feel bad about

Still, "IF" the performance is as advertised, even at $140k it is a great deal.

When we get an EV (whichever brand), it won't replace the M8.
I assume that once more models roll off the line, the change of specs will speed up; ideally I would love to see multi-months rentals or 1 year leases so one can stay on the latest motor/battery tech... like we do with our iPhones
