So i’ve been thinking about getting back into photography and filming. Back in the day I used to have a Canon T2i and loved it but sold it as i wasnt using it much and wanted the money for other things.

Well like i said i’m thinking about getting back into it. I was thinking of getting a T7i and curious what your opinions on this camera are. Don’t want the very entry level T7 or anything cheap but also not looking to break the bank on a hobby.

Open to other options as i dont really have any lenses anymore, however when i researched for my old camera the Canon was known for having the best video quality/capabilities.
Dont really care about shooting in 4K however if it’s available i’d be willing to look into it.
Will likely be paired with a couple gopros

I have an old Nikon D40X, thing simply does too well to upgrade.

I know some folks are either Canon or Nikon, and there are small nuances (back when I bought mine Nikon was slightly better for inside light vs Canon) both fantastic cameras.

It would be a great time to buy a used 5DIII, if you want to to with Canon.

I still use a 15yr old Canon Rebel Ti dslr for my macro/portrait photography and it works great. The cameras today are so evenly spec'd, that it just depends on which you like holding better. I've been shooting with Canon for 16yrs, so that's why I recommend it.

Seriously consider a Sony RX-10 Mach IV. The lens range is awesome and the picture quality is stunning. No need to buy a bevy of lenses. (Disclaimer: I have four Canon DLSR bodies and over a dozen lenses.) I love the Sony RX-10. Check out some images from it.

While those pictures are pretty stunning the camera is a bit more than i’d like to spend. I’m trying to stay under $1000 and if i went with a t7i i’m pretty familiar with the controls and i can get one refurb’d from canon for about $650 which would leave me money left over for a nice lens or 2

I'd say go for the canon t7i. You are already familiar with it and it's a great starter camera. I'd also recommend a 50mm 1.8 lens (around $200 new) for the awesome portrait shots.

You can actually get the 50mm f/1.8 for about $125 or you could get the 50mm f/1.4 for not much more than $200 at ~$270.

Sounds like you want Canon, Crop sensor, body and lens under $1000 and HD video.

Anything else important to you like weight, weather sealing, view finder type, articulating vs fixed screen, touch screen, wifi, card slots, autofocus ability with a teleconverter, flash sync port?
What will you be shooting most?

For the above the T7i should fit the bill. Check out MPB.com for used gear - I have sold and purchased many things from them reliably. Looks like you can get a decent body for
sub 500 there.

If you have some experience and want a crop body, I can't recommend anything other than the 7D/7D II. I'm a full frame guy, so Idk what the 7D2 is going for these days, but I had an original 7D when I was starting out. It was incredibly tough, and handled extremely well. Does video very well too. And my favorite part: you don't get the little running dude or flower or "scene" modes. It's no nonsense. Essentially a 5D series with a smaller sensor. Pair it with a Tamron 17-50 2.8 and you've got a fantastic setup. If you guys want I can show examples of things I did with that if I can dig them up lol

How much do you want to spend and what will you be shooting?

I shoot fashion and glamour as a hobby and have as much camera equipment as I have car parts. Same samples attached.

The T7i is pretty well a lame duck and a waste of money. But then anything is a step up from the T2i and you will find that Canon has fallen behind Nikon and Sony due to it's arrogance and trying to de-feature it's low end cameras. Here are some reviews and lens recommendations.

I recommend getting a used camera for better value such as an used 80D (about the same price as a new T7i). And don't forget about the lens. Have a look at these links for buying used.

Nikon D750 is or was the best bang for the buck that i'm aware of and i had a 7d and 7d ii.
