Fabspeed Downpipe Advice
Hey everyone, I don't have an M2 but I have a 435i and wanted some feedback on the Fabspeed downpipe. How was passing emissions (preferably in PA)? How's the sound paired with an aftermarket catback? How long have you had the downpipe? Thank you everyone.

I haven't had to pass emissions, but I can tell you that I've had no CEL.
And the DP is so good that you probably won't need a catback afterwards, especially if you pair it with the Dinan resonator delete. The Fabulous Fabspeed is what the name should be. |

I already have a catback (AWE) and its pretty tame unless I mash the gas. I can't hear it in comfort mode when just cruising. But yeah I couldn't really find anything on YouTube as far as videos.

My first emissions test (NJ) is due in January so not 100% sure about that, but since I've had no CEL's thus far that seems very promising as our tests are done via OBDII here and not measured via an exhaust sniffer. I've had the downpipe (paired with a Remus exhaust) for the better part of 3 years now and the only complaint I have is the brutal cold starts. Personally, I'm not interested in flashing the DME just to get rid of them so I use a valve controller unit and modulate the throttle with my foot after starting the engine to make it less obnoxious. If I had to do that daily I'm sure it would get old and I'd flash the cold start out, but since it's not my DD I'm more than happy to have a start procedure. Makes the car feel a bit more special.
If you want to hear what it sounds like I have a thread here: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1432744 |

Thanks, I think so too!
While catted dp's are not quite as loud as catless, I think they sound much better. "Throatier" I think is the word I would use. Catless dp's tend to sound very hollow. Also the added benefit of a cat is no smells or smoke. Really I can't see any reason you'd go catless over a sport cat other than you have a burble tune and don't want to melt the cat core. Price is really the only drawback. |

I have a Fabspeed catted downpipe on my N55 M2, and it passed emissions in Oregon with no problems. It picked up 37 hp at the dyno, when paired with my Dinan intake. And the car was MUCH more responsive.
Plus, it also sounds fabulous. Get one!!! It's the best money you can spend on an M2. Buy it from Mike at Xtreme Powerhouse. A forum sponsor. |

Hate to jump in here. But I have to remind everyone that any downpipe is illegal under federal law. You are not allowed to change a manufacturer’s emission system.

As long as it passes no smog police are going to show up at your door and arrest you And BMW could care less as long as it isn't kicking any codes And by not kicking a code, it clearly means it's actually doing its intended job

Under 42 U.S.C. Chapter 85 II A Section 7522(a)(3)(A) removal of emissions control devices is a violation of federal law. However, end user enforcement of this subsection is almost never under this code section, unless you are stopped on federal land i.e. a national park (there are additional rare exceptions which are not worth getting into here). Sellers of emissions defeating devices (sport cat or test pipe manufacturers, makers of long tube headers, etc.) may be prosecuted under 7522(a)(3)(B) and are this is more common because of the interstate nature of the businesses. But the vast majority of emissions enforcement is done under state laws, since you're mostly being pulled over by state law enforcement. It's a minor point, but the federal law doesn't really effect people directly. |
