residual
does anyone know what the residual will be for the new m240i coupe? I'm hoping it's better than the residual was on my 2019 m240i that I leased 3 years ago.

damn that sucks as that is the same residual on my current car. with used car values soaring recently I was hoping that the residual value would be set slightly higher for this new model, but I guess not.

It's over $200 more a month than my current '18 m240i lease which had a sticker price of 52k. A m340i looks like it actually leases out for less |

It'll be 54% for 10k and 51% for 15k, based on BMW logic.

2 series has always been horrible to lease. It's pretty annoying.

Buying vs leasing doesnt really make a difference. They are both worth the same amount after the term so right now with the current numbers, its not financially savvy to buy or lease. Point is - 50% is very unattractive for a lease because the payment will be much higher. However, that doesn't make purchasing a vehicle that depreciates at that clip any better. (especially a first year model right off the assembly line) Last edited by xugator; 09-10-2021 at 03:53 PM.. |

Plan to keep the new 230i for many years. And respectively disagree a little on blanket comment regarding resale;
I paid $39.8k for my 2018 230i with msrp of $45.5k. Sold it 3 months ago privately for $30.5k after I owned vehicle for 4.5 years. Regret selling and why I put in order 2 days ago for semi-loaded 230i with similar msrp of $46.1k |

I have been an auto broker working with BMW for over 7 years now, and my input after seeing the official September programs is that BMW currently states "Use Applicable Select Balloon Percentage" for MY22 2-Series coupes.
Balloon Percentages are generally a good bit lower than traditional lease residuals, and I assume this is to fill in the gap while BMWFS determines actual residuals. I believe this will be updated closer to US deliveries, so figure Oct/Nov programs. My (hopeful) prediction - we see a similar relationship between the G42 and 2-Series GC as we do with the 4-series and 3-series - so figure 54% base residual for both. I'm currently in a G20 M340i but do miss my F22 M235i, that car was a blast. Fingers crossed the lease residuals improve! Last edited by bimmer813; 09-13-2021 at 01:12 PM.. |

If it is not much cheaper it doesn't make sense to buy/lease this one over the M340i. Anything over $600 per month for lease is not cheap. The higher the depreciation levels are the higher the monthly payments are going to be.

While the residuals *should* be set by actual depreciation, I'm willing to bet that the manufacturers manipulate them based on market conditions and which models they need to move.
Right now, there isn't any incentive to inflate residuals which makes leasing attractive without needing heavy incentives to erode the brand. I believe the previous gen 4-series had a 56 or 57% residual for a 36/12 whereas now it's 54%. BMW believes they won't have a problem moving these and likely won't add incentives or increased residuals until inventory starts to pile up. Probably just the reality of the current market. |

My guess is that the GC FWD 2-Series is the bargain basement sedan option now, while the RWD 2-Series won't be much cheaper to the 3/4 and will be marketed as being a bit smaller vs. being entry level. |

I used to have a 2015 M235i which was excellent and two years ago I wanted to get back into a new M240i. The M340i had just launched and leases were about $75/mo apart so I test drove both. The G20 felt 10 years ahead of the F22 so that was an easy decision. I do miss the smaller footprint of the 2er though and will consider a G42 since it's basically a slightly smaller coupe M340i.
