Wheel options and differences between base and "M" wheels
Hey all — I'm going through the configurator and see the two choices for wheels.
I notice, for example, the 797 wheel has all season tires and the 797M wheel has performance tires. I understand the outward facing wheel "style" is the same, but does the "M" designation mean anything? Are the 797M wheels wider, for example? And if so, how can one tell the tire width that's used for the A/S vs Performance tires? I would think that if the wheels are the same and the tire is the only difference, it wouldn't have different wheel names…

wheel names are the same.. M797
base choice is with the all-season tires, I selected performance non-run flat tires that are staggered widths..

If I'm understanding you correctly, it's the same wheel and they're both 797M and therefore mislabeled for the A/S run flat selection? And the A/S option will run the same staggered width set up with 255 rears?

Hi, the all-seasons are 225/40/19 all around
The Perf non-run flats are same 225/40 in front but 255/35 in rear

I checked my buildsheet and I have the 792M with (sigh) A/S tires so I think its just an omission on the configurator. I plan to put Pilot 4S's on for the summer in stock size, I'm sure the xDrive will more than make up for narrower rear tire.

That is my assumption too, they are summer-biased A/S.

I would say that the all-season tires coming on this vehicle will still be performance oriented. BMW hand selects their tires to be the best driving before comfort and quietness, I wouldnt worry, I did the A/S (granted Im putting ps4 or cup2s for summer on te37s) but I think I will still have fun this winter without having to sacrifice performance too much.

Looks like I can get a set of winter tires in 225/40/19 off tirerack for $800-1000 and not worry about messing with the scrub angle with a winter wheel set. I'm not quite willing to drop $3-4k on a BMW winter set of wheels and tires. |

Geez, $4k for wheel/tires through BMW?!?! I have a set of 17's for my F30 340i and I think I paid $1200 (no TPMS) mounted and balanced for my winter set. I hope the A/S's are good enough for a MI winter because I intended to use them for winter and mount 4S's for summer. Our winters have been milder the past few years.
