Still waiting on production date likely means your order hasn't been submitted and they don't have an allocation. If the dealer had an allocation, your order would be submitted and accepted by the factory and slotted into a future built week pending production.

Think of it like a restaurant. You told the server what you want, but they haven't dropped the ticket to the kitchen yet.

IMO dealers are notorious for collecting deposits and "taking orders" and then smoothing things over or talking vague with the customers until the metaphorical "kitchen" says they're ready.

I refused to place my order unless the dealer could generate a production number. They traded allocations with another dealer and shoved my order through. Placed the order a week ago. Got a production number immediately and car is going to drop onto the line next week.

No production number means you're on a list, not on the line.
Good info. This is my first BMW order. Have cars on order from other manufacturers and they're all different in how they operate.

I gave BMW of Dallas a deposit on 10/8 because they said they had a modifiable October allocation. So it's Nov 19th and my car isn't in production. So that means they lied for sure right?
Not necessarily. I have a real production number and my car isn't in production yet. When I ordered my M3 in July it wasn't scheduled until September… but it still was scheduled and had my name on it with a production number.

Get the number… it should be marked as "Customer Sold" order. But not in production yet doesn't mean the order isn't real. No production number means the order isn't real.

Got my m240 from a dealer in Northern VA at MSRP. It was a vehicle on the lot. They noted they’re not selling their cars above. PM if you want their info.

I am one of those that would never pay over MSRP on principle.
No discount would be very hard to take.

Talked to my dealer a few days ago and they said they are adding 5% markup on new cars because they can't get enough units to sell their normal volume. More than that on some vehicles I think. At least the salesperson was apologetic about it.

Not going to pay more than MSRP. I can just drive my little 230 another year if I need to. If I buy one it will be off the lot--I would like to know what options they have and I really don't want one without touchscreen.

I can’t decide whether to place an order for the M240i xdrive. My dealer in U.K. is quoting delivery of 6 to 9 months. The upside is that I am entitled to use the BMW armed forces scheme which discounts the car by £6,000.

Wow I'm glad that I am not the only one crazy enough to have one of each of these on order. Not sure if one of your is for a SO or not, I plan to winter drive the M240 and DD the M3 except for bad weather.

I got both for MSRP, but hoping for rebates on both, had to go to separate non-local dealerships. M3 from Chicago and M240 from Cincinnati.

The M3 is on a scheduled to hit Baltimore on the 10 and the M240 is currently scheduled for week 51.

How about yours?

I paid $1000 over MSRP for an ordered M240i xDrive on November 22nd in the SF Bay Area. This was the last day of the $1000 promotion for test driving. So it ended up being net MSRP as long as the car is delivered in 90 days.

If I'd had more time I could have probably found a straight MSRP deal, but I figured I'd just jump on this since it was the last day for the $1000 back, and shopping and negotiating would probably result in the same net price or maybe at best $500 less.

Took delivery of the M3 last week. M240
Is still "scheduled for production" and getting bumped from week 45 to 47 to TBD. The M240 is for the gf but we really could get away with sharing one car. Alas…

Sometimes Dealers will already have an amendable allocation. Then you get a production number quickly. Sometimes they don't and they are waiting for BMW to give them a production numbers, dealerships are 100% lying if they don't have a prob number right away. Also you could have been set to build in Oct but then BMW could push the build date of the prob number. Been seeing a lot of my customers orders get production delays lately.

Delay now is part of the process. This cannot be a surprise to any person given world situation and supply chain issues.

I just spoke with my dealer, and they have a gray one (red leather) in stock, and he can do MSRP on it. They've had it a few weeks now, and I was surprised it hasn't sold.

I actually don't think the premium package is important....

sidenote - hop on that grey / tacora red - looks EXCELLENT in that spec. Somewhat local dealer has the same thing but $5k markup - surprise, surprise - it hasn't sold.

It seems like that combo is a common spec. 3 dealers near me in Chicago got that exact spec in as their launch vehicles. All 3 sold before they even arrived. I got to go look at one before the buyer took delivery of it. It's beautiful. It's what I had already ordered (except I got jet black wheels instead of bicolor plus the extended shadowline).

That's sick! My Audi was like this. Ordered mine for Feb delivery going super man build code (EMP8UR1A). Cant wait now. To keep on topic I paid MSRP but it was not easy being in the tri-sate (NY,NJ,CT). Everyone was above and if you used any incentive seemed the price was higher

Garage List
IF there was a BG/Tocara near me (southeast MI) I'd jump on it since my car is still sitting in GA. My dealer had been very good, but I just had to extend my lease for the 3rd month and still waiting on my car (out of their control).

$1000 off MSRP and $2000 Penfed Rebate in St. Louis MO. I almost bought one but am leaning to a new X5 now. I’m hard to explain.

Just ordered an M240i today (12.1.21), dealer just outside of Philadelphia, PA. I paid MSRP. But here’s the thing, they gave me a ton for my 3-year-old, low mileage 330i xdrive.

Before I went to the dealer, I went on KBB and CarMax and was shocked at the numbers and the dealer didn't low ball but came in right in the middle. I asked for another grand and got it. The dealers know they can sell excellent condition used BMWs quickly. If you have one to trade, you’ll do very well.

Has anyone noticed dealers adding small insignificant mark ups to MSRP?
This is based upon what I'm seeing on an app called RODO.
I'm having trouble Understanding why a dealer would add $160 to the MSRP just makes no sense and makes me think I'm missing some thing else in the equation.
Although it annoys me I can understand why a dealer would want to add To the profit but for the small amounts I just don't get it why would you risk irritating people for less than $500
